A hard lump has appeared on a prominent vein near my hips. It is not only hard, but from what I can see is blue in color. My first thought was that it must have something to do with the fact I gave birth nine months back, even though I only just noticed the lump four days ago, and I am sure it has not been there all that time. What do you think this could be?

Are you sure that the hard lump is connected to your vein itself? My first thought is some kind of abscess, though I am sure that this would be situated near the vein rather than right on it. Or you could have an inflamed blood vessel, a condition that is also known as vasculitis, and which doesn't necessarily have to be dangerous. If you want to know for sure, please do go to see a doctor.

Thank you for your reply. Of course I am not sure of anything, in the first place because I am not a medical professional and in the second place because whatever it is that the lump is is under the skin, inside my body, so I can't see it, just attempt to feel it. Do you think this kind of thing would turn up on an x-ray?
