I had a hemmoroidectomy about a month ago and things were progressing rather nicely. In the last couple of days, my stools have become so hard, and do not want to come out despite 2x daily tbsp of milk or magnesia and a cup of metamucil. The stools feel stuck in my rectum and it is so uncomfortable and then when they do come out it is with much straining and only limited return. I feel that this is a horrible setback and don't know why this is happening. It is also painful. Please help!

I had fecal impaction twice, between two to
three months after surgery, just when I thought
I was recovering.
It is possible you could have stenosis or narrowing
of the anus. Go back to the surgeon and let him
have a look at it.
Try a stool softener like Colace (sodium docusate)
and drink lots of water. Take also a good probiotic.
