I had a hemmoroidectomy on May 12, 2015. Hemmorroids run in the family on my mother's side, so I already had a predisposition to developing them. Coupled with giving birth one time over 12 years ago, and I got my first external hemmorroid. Over the years due to constipation issues, I developed more. Grew a cluster of them & I had internal ones too. However, they never bled, or were painful. But there was a real hygiene issue b/c it was near impossible to really get the anus area clean, despite much careful wiping. Finally the hygiene concern propeled me to visit a colorectol surgeon. She inspected the rectum & diagnosed both internal & external hemmorroids, prompting a recommendation for an excisional hemmorroidectomy. Several weeks later, I did 2 enemas the morning of the surgery. I was put under general anesthesia, & woke up with a very sore throat from an airway tube. Later on in the day I felt very nauseas, & promptly vomited liquid. The next day I vomited profuse amounts of soup & liquid. There was no sleeping due to pain & discomfort, including swelling. My anus is black & blue, & I'm urinating constantly. I also took percocet, advil, colace, fiber supplement called konsyl, & tylenol like they were going out of style. Saturday I took milk of magnesia & miralax too. No bowel movements until Sunday morning, & my surgery was on Tuesday morning. Saturday night -last night- was the first night I got any sleep - about 6 hours. Passed a small stool with what looks like dried blood on it this morning - not much pain but there was definite discomfort. There is a chronic burning sensation at my anus that really has not gone away yet. Constant bloating, distended abdomen, & gas are all a part of each day. You can smell the dried blood from the rectum. I used the sitz bath to help with urination. At this point, I use a bath with very warm water. I am urinating no problem at this point, & the swelling has gone down. Tried to produce a second small stool but it is not ready to come out yet. Going to ingest more magnesium citride now. Anus feels uncomfortable due to the stool I cannot pass. This is a surgery I would never do again. I am on day 5 technically, & it is torture. Maybe if the rest of my recovery goes okay then I will have a change of heart, but so far this is my thought. Will post again.
