You know people say that a heart only beats so many times per lifetime. All I can say if its true take care of yourself. I had the same situation happening to me where my heart would race, hard breathing, and anxiousness.. I've been to the dr and had a ekg, had a catheder up my groin having my heart tested, 24hr monitor, and everything else that could be done.. Everything was perfect not a thing wrong, except the fact that I would drink alot of energy drinks.. Because of the energy drinks i have came close to having a stroke or heart attack.. OH by the way Im only 28yrs old.. All I can say from experience is if your having heart problems and dr says your fine but your drinking energy drinks that is the problem.. Because of them now I suffer with Anxiety attacks/Panic attacks and trust me its not fun.. All the symptoms that you all are posting I've experienced them..

I have the exact same issue going on, what might this be caused by? and I'm not sure if any of you have tried this, but do you feel a sudden relief of pressure in your chest after you burp..if so then keep burping- it makes it momentarily better. Also, does anyone here have a history with overdose? cause me and my girlfriend both overdosed (not at the same time) once in our lives, and she believes this came about after the O.D.

Hey guys,
I'm a 18 year old male and I also can relate to the hard pounding of the heart, visible heart beat through chest and also I noticed my heart rate to be more rapid.
I can recall when I was 14 years old I was playing basketball with some friends. Well I over exerted myself and my throat started to get this really weird sensation; almost as if someone was applying pressure to it. Right after I noticed this, my heart started to flutter. Has this happened to anyone of you guys? This has happened to me about 4 times but every time it happened, I get this feeling as if I'm gonna die. =/
So now, I'm scared to exercise.
I'm slim, and I haven't been to the doctor yet.
Also, (sorry for rambling) my family on my mothers side has had problems with the heart such as High blood pressure and irregular palpitations.
any tips?

I'm much older than most of you and have experienced skipped beats on an off most of my life without any other problems. But in early August, 2008, I too started feeling “pounding beats” but without the usual fast rate you would expect to accompany that feeling. I had an EKG 3 days ago, and wore a new type of 7 day monitor – both results showed normal rhythm, even during a bad pounding episode. The doctor didn’t have an answer but I go for a Echocardiogram next week.
I don’t give up easy. I intend to get to the bottom of this.
I am going to throw out my thoughts here which have little or no supporting scientific backing – yet. I think there may be a common element that would require everyone experiencing this to list diets, habits, etc and see if that “common element” can be found. Some possibilities are: (1) Estrogen leaching from the plastic water bottles constantly in our hands; (2) low sodium or potassium levels; (3) low calcium and magnesium levels; (4) the slow introduction of genetically modified feed in the animal food we eat. Food that we always ate in the past with no problems but now the manufacturer or farmer made a sudden (unadvertised) switch in their animal feed triggering our “sudden” symptoms that we can’t figure out why we are now having them. Items #2 & #3 above should reveal itself if you ask your doctor for a COMPLETE across the board blood test, and tell him not to skimp on the amount of tests unless you want to go back over and over again for weeks on end to find the problem. It is hard to believe with all the different doctors visited by the posters here that none of them gave a hint of the cause – this makes me think there is something new happening that has not been studied yet.
Other thoughts are – do we all eat out regularly at a specific restaurant such as Arby’s, Subway, or Boston Market? These would be food allergies that sneak up on you because they never bothered you in the past. Keeping a written log for 10-20 days of everything you put in your mouth and any pounding symptoms might reveal the culprit. Then possibly testing the source by intentionally eating, drinking, or repeating a specific food or physical exercise to see if that’s the cause. With me it seems to be tied into my digestive juices, last week I only “thought” about stopping by Subway but didn’t. A few minutes later I had a pounding episode, (and without even enjoying the sandwich) !
I picked up a few clues reading all the above posts – body position, twisting the body, energy drinks (very bad), exercise, feelings of doom… In summary, there IS a mental fear component that aggravates the pounding feeling and might make it worse, but in my opinion its normal to get scared when this sensation comes on. I do NOT think this pounding is normal and we have to put up with it. Our bodies ARE meant to run, exercise, contort, eat, drink, and not have this problem like most of us didn’t in the past. One of us will find some answers, just please post it here for all to possibly benefit from it. That’s my two cents…ur… two-hundred cents !

I'm 25 and have the same symptoms and issues with the not knowing what the hell is wrong with me, I had a n EKG and that was normal I had a bunch of bloodwork done and that all came back normal and I've b een taking zanax for almost a month which is an anti anxiety pill for those of you who don't know and guess what it doesn't help either, well i shouldn't say taht it actually does make me not worry about my heart pounding but it has no effect on the actual symptom so in my case anyway it's clearly not anxiety. Whatever it is it makes me feel likee i can't do some of the things i used to for fear of passing out I've actually put on quite a bit of wight since it started about 8 months ago as well if anybody has any suggestions I'd love to hear 'em

Yeah im having that problem right now,
i did a bit of coke a few hours
ago and my heart started pumping hard, and i got very nervous
my heart kind of hurts and it feels like I have a wieght on my chest
restricting me, breathing is uncomfortable.
I have had the problem before after smoking weed.
Its a very uncorfortable feeling, like i might die. Im debating
going to the drs,
Its feeling a bit better now than before but still uncomfortable.
my feet are quite cold while the rest of me is hot.

WELL GUYS i guess u know what im gonna say next......im 18 years old....my story is close to similar but a lil diff.......about months ago i was in great shape getting ready to graduate high school....i worked out daily and was on top of the world.....and never really had heart problmes or any major health problems before.......about 2 maybe 3 months ago over the summer i decided to have one last hurrah before i started to look for a job.....one of my buddys had adhd a while back and still had meds called adderall left.....i had never taken it before and had heard that it is just like taking a caffine pill just dont take too much....so we each took one and i gotta say it made me feel great i could conentrate and felt like i could talk to anyone about ne thing.....so i got stupid and decided that me and my bud could end our summer with something cool and stayed up for 3 DAYS in a row on this c**p! i never took more then one at once or ne thing but every 3 or 4 hours i would take one i planned on stopping on the 3rd day and never planned on taking it again really ive never been in to drugs at all...but then the worst happened....on the third morning i took the last adderal ill ever take....i took one and then without thinking i decided to be a dumbass and swig it down with a monster energy drink.....30 mins later i took a hott shower feeling fine by the time i was out my heart was racing out of my chest and i got light headed, it was hard to breathe and i know its kinda sick but my testicles tightened up and swelling like a mother f****r.....i went to the hospital two hours later knowing what i took and my mom thinking it was just an energy drink i thought ok this will wear off soon but it didnt i waited for an hour and when i went in my pulse was 172 beats per mintue with a blood pressure of 156/92 i was freaking out thinking i might die.....after about another hour i started feeling better and thought "thank god its over im fine" ...nope.....at the time i was and just told the doc ya i had to many energy drinks i feel fine now.....since then ive been back 3 times without taking any kind of drugs or energy drinks at all! and my BPM averaged about 170...docs said oh ya anxiety....had an ultrasound came back normal and ekg normal.....then my insurance kicked me off my moms cus i turned 18 and now im having more symptoms like muscle twitches all over my body thorughout the days.....a pounding heart like u guys all say it hasnt raced in a while but as well as u guys it always seems like its working harder....and i cant lift weights anymore like i used to or even excerise a lil without it beating fast. and now on top of that ive been having stomach probs....like after i eat i get pressure feeling in my upper stomach when i press a lil bit on it and the main thing that bugs me is it feels like theres almost a constant but very very dull pressure feeling on my chest under my left rib cage by my heart now that wont go away....its weird cuz even on a bad day most of the time i feel pretty good in the morning like im actuall refreshed and could work out if i wanted to but it quickly gets worse most the time..somedays i feel almost normal again but still not....lots of the time ill be out of energy and sleep all day when i have a day off work but then others arnt so bad ne more.....i can actually get away with drinking pop now without my heart freaking out 20 mins later my symptoms are so on and off though that when i did go in to the docs they tell me its just anxiety and stress prob because they dont wanna do all the test hassels it would be to figure out a prob with such random symptoms....but i gotta admit slowly i have started feeling a lil better and one of my main probs was indeed prob anxiety from the near death exp i almost had 3 motnhs ago....but still my symptoms are there and im getting tired of living like this....not being able to excerise and actually feel normal again and go out and run around with my freinds.....if anybody took the time to read this far lol my HUGE hand of adive to you is if ur in good shape still dont ever risk throwing it all outta wack just for three nights of fun....i gotta say for me the truth was it was fun but MOST DEFF NOT WORTH IT!

Hi everybody. I am sorry for my English, but I have the same problem like everybody here. Here is my story. I am 28 y.o. male 150 pounds weight always been healthy never had any health problems untill my dentist visit. For my gum infection he prescribe me antibiotic(doxysycline 20 mg) I have been taking this for 1 week after that I experienced my first pannik attack and anxiety, i thought I was gonna die my heart was rasing and pounding like it was gonna jump out of my chest. I went to ER that night they did ECG blood test ax ray of my chest, blood pressure everything came out normal. They said it anxiety and put me on lorazepam that whould take anxiety awaybut my hert still was pounding. I went to my doctor and he test my thyroids and test came back normal and he couldn't give me a straighgt answer. Then I stop taking antibiotic and I felt a little bit better. But still once in 2 or 3 days espesially in the morning I wake up from my heart pounding, I can't get a normal night sleep as before I used to sleep 8-10 hours now only 5-6. Then I start googling my symptoms and found that my problem could be candida overgrouth I started my diet low sugar and so on felt some better less pounding but I couldn't totally eliminate that. then I found product calld threelac online and I ordered right away 1 day of taking it I felt a significant improvment in my heart pounding it occures less and less I got so axited now after 3 months of taking it I experiencing only mild pounding mostly at night. My sleep is normalizing i am getting 7 hours of sleep almast every day. I exercise almast every day. I have noticed also that after I exercise outdoor in the park I fall asleep a lot quicker, I get so tired and my heart rate goes down.

Im only 15 and during gym I was just kicking a soccer ball lightly trying to do the thing where you pounce it of your kneew and failing and then I sat down for a while as I was sitting I then felt my heart beating in my chest, it felt like it was pounding against my chest. I put my hand over my heart and it was beating so rapidly and I had to take deep breaths. It slowed down after about three to five minutes.
This isn't the first time it has happened it also happened when I was just sitting class and I hadn't been doing anything strenious at all.
To be honest it worries because I dont know what is happening.

Hey everybody, I am 23 and I also have been having this issue for the past couple of nights. It happens as soon as I lie down to go to bed. I have no more stress or anxiety than normal, so I don't see how that could be it. You know when you have to get up early and you are worried about not getting enough sleep so you might get anxiety about it? Well I thought it might be related to that, but honestly I have had that issue many times before, and I just get "restless" which is very different than feeling like your heart is about to pound it's way out of your chest.
In response to Larry G's post, I am a vegan so I don't eat any animal products. I'm sure I have some vitamin deficiency or whatever, but there is no way in hell I am going to get a bunch of blood work done, I'm absolutely terrified of needles. I smoke cigarettes but don't do any drugs ever. I drink pretty minimally regularly.
Really the ONLY thing I can think of that was different at all about going to bed those two nights was that I was going to bed 2 hours or so earlier than normal because I was just so tired. I had 1 drink I think both nights, so nothing that was out of the ordinary.
I'm not sure, I have a feeling it is mental or something, but with no difference in anxiety or stress for me, I just don't get it.

Comment: After some heart symptoms and atrial fibrulation after a procedure, the heart tests came back normal. My doctor put me on a 21 day Life Wave monitor that comes with a cell phone tht transmits your heart data directly to a monitoring center. Everything was fine for the first 2 weeks and then it told the story of 6 days of atrial fib from Thanksgiving onward. It gave a pretty good picture of what was going on.
Symptoms are hard to catch on a scheduled doctor appointment but this monitor 24/7 allowed continual viewing of daily abnormalities if there are any. Just a suggestion.

It has been interesting reading the posts on this subject. I am a 42 yr old female who has had these heart fibrillation symptoms off and on since I was a teenager. My brother also experiences these however not to the extent I do. Out of six siblings we are the only two.
The fibrillation I experience only lasts several minutes at a time and I only get them about once or twice a year. Mine come on unexpectedly with rapid, extremely hard pounding heart beats (my entire chest cavity shakes). It takes my breath away and I have pain up each side of my neck. When it is over I have a headache. Lying down does not help. I have found that sitting leaning forward helps the most but it doesn't seem to make them last any shorter.
The episodes while pregnant have been by far the most severe and most frequent so I thought perhaps it might be linked to a deficiency in something or dehydration. I remember having a couple of really bad episodes while pregnant when I truly thought I was going to die with my three little ones there to watch. That is the scariest thing I have ever experienced.
Larry has a point when he mentioned that low calcium or potassium could be a factor. I agree with Larry that this cannot be normal. I hope I find an answer before it is too late.
My episodes have never had anything to do with exercise or meal time. I have never had any major operations, I have never had alcohol or drugs, I don't take prescription drugs nor do I take over the counter medicines very often. I am a very healthy person overall. I have had ultrasounds on my heart as well as an EKG but everything comes back normal. My physician says my blood work is good. I am not a candidate to wear a monitor because it doesn't happen regularly or frequently enough to monitor. I also have been told by a physician that it is normal to have these episodes and that it is common. When I talk to others about it I have never met anyone (other than my brother) that experiences this.
I have them less often now, maybe once a year, and I seem to feel when one is coming by the lump high in my chest and a flutter. I feel that if I stay calm and take controlled, shallow breaths then it goes away before it goes full blown. ????? Doesn't seem to be any answers.

If you are having skipped heartbeats, loud, pounding heart, etc, don't let the docs blow you off. I had the same thing happen to me for several months. I kept going to the ER when it happened. Finally one day it happened on and off all day long! I went to the ER. They hooked me up to the EKG, again, and nothing. But it's because they only get like 60 seconds and it's not RIGHT when it's happening. So a nurse comes in and told me it showed nothing. And I told her I was not leaving until they found the problem. I explained that it happens irregularly, and that they aren't catching it when it happens. Suddenly it happened again and I was hooked up, but the machine wasn't running to catch it on tape. But I said, "it's happening!" and she glanced up and saw it on the monitor just before it stopped.
So she stood there and waited til the next time and caught one for a few seconds. It was enough that they put me on a halter monitor for 24 hours. Found out that I was having tons of them! They put me on medication for arrythmia. Turns out I'm having skipped heartbeats.
I never could "feel" my heartbeats before that. And it's scary. Yes, caffeine can contribute to it, but sometimes it just happens and no, it's not just a panic attack. Counseling doesn't fix the problem. At times a panic attack can bring it on, but it's a medical problem. There are two different kinds of arrythmia and one can be dangerous. Get this checked out.

This is so weird, I've been having symptoms over the years the kind that everyone mentions here, but I also have the burping thing, where I feel better...as if I'm really gassy in the chest...anyone else have this?
