Just to be safe, I would suggest going to your doctor. There are some simple tests that can put your mind at rest.
That said, I know many woman who have had long periods when menopause arrives. Mine went the other way, and got shorter, and I missed some entirely. However, I do recall early on in the process that I had some longer periods.
The one time I had a 6 week period was the one time I tried oral hormones to try to help with depression. They set off the longest period of my life, and made me feel more depressed. So that makes me think yours is hormone-related as well.
