My concern focuses on people with Hematomacrosis or excess iron levels in the blood. My roommate has this status and I am looking for ways to naturally reduce this occurrence. He is vegan and consumes an 85 % raw diet. The biggest concern lies within the dangers of having excess iron encourages cancer developments in his body. This is what I‘ve found about your issue. While iron is a necessary nutrient, but it is needed only in small amounts. When there is an excess iron in the body than it s called Hematomacrosis. Iron acts as a cancer-promoting agent by two separate yet synergistic mechanisms producing "free radicals," and by feeding cancer cells. Iron increases the production of free radicals, and in fact the production of free radicals is largely proportionate to the level of iron. This means that the more iron there is in his body, the more free radicals will be produced. So the greater the risk of disease is there….well shortly more iron that is available, the more the cancer cells will divide and flourish, and the better chance they have of killing the host.

To the poster who was wanting to reduce the occurrence of high iron in the blood, surely his roommate was told by his doctor that the only way to keep the iron level under control is to "bleed out" every week for a while, then perhaps down to every month. I have two sisters who have this disease, and their medical professionals (and others I have talked to have done this). Being vegan may not lower the iron. There are foods they tell you to avoid, not sure what they are. You need to confirm this with your professional, the best and quickest method to remove iron from the blood is to have a pint removed as frequently as it takes to get your blood back to normal iron without removing too much, then maintaining so that the iron level remains stable.

I was just informed that I too suffer from this rare genealogical disorder. I am looking for a "low iron diet". All I seem to be able to find are suggestions for increasing iron intake not reducing it. Does anyone have any suggestions?
