My wife has MS and a rash from her waist up to her neck. She is in a nursing home and they are giving her prednisone. Her white count was 16 and now has jumped to 27 in the last two weeks. She has a yeast infection in the mouth. They are telling me the increase is due to the infection. The doctor on july 10 th said he would be concerned if it increased if it increased which it did. But they are blaming it on the yeast infection. Will a yeast infection cause a increase of 10 points in the blood cell count. There is a possibility she has Steven Johnson disease.

Hey there maurice. Sorry to hear about your wife.... that must be extreamly tough to deal with. A yeas infection can certianly caus an increased white blood cell (wbc) count. Is she on any antibiotics and if so how much and how long has she been on them for? Prednisone is a steriod which works wonders for inflamation and things but it can weaken the immune system making a person more prone to infections. What were her differentials on her wbc? Ex were any cell types. Eosinophilles, neutrophilles monocytes , basophille lymphocytes ect... high or low? Thanks
