I had myLAMINOTOMY, DISCECTOMY L4/L5 Jan 18 2017. It's been 5 weeks for me. I have to admit. I have been quick to heal. I have done long walks. 2 to 3 miles. Normal daily activity while trying to still baby my moves. I do feel sciatic pain still. However. My pain level before surgery was a 10. Cant walk more then 10 min. House hold chores was impossible. I would say with the pain I still have, it's 97 percent better. I been told my nerves have been under pressure for so long and surgical treatment tends to agitate the nerve as well. I hope this helps. 33 year old male 8 years of sciatic pain. Tried everything before the surgery. Best thing I ever did in my life.

I also would not listen to that guy. The first clue was his sentence structure, grammar etc. He tells you to educate yourself and his education is greatly lacking.

I am a year out from a l4 l5 s1 laminectomy, the kicker is I had a severe staph infection on the front and back of my right hip and up my spine, they caught it about 2 inches away from my heart.Needless to say I was dying when the community hospital sent me home twice saying I was just seeking drugs. Finally I had the ambulance drag me to a different hospital only to be told nothing was wrong once again,I had them call my neurosurgeon from again previous c5 surgery and he made them admit me to the hospital.I can honestly say my pain is much worse then it was before the surgery ,not the the staph infection I felt like I had been ran over by again truck and backed over again. My surgeon told me I was very lucky because most who come in with a staph infection of the level mine was at they leave in a body bag.I can say that everyone experiences pain different and some drugs don't work for one person aswell as they do for others.I was on oxys for 2 weeks after my laminectomy and then I went back on suboxone.I've been on the suboxone for 7 years now and it really don't stop the pain but it does help abit I am still in alot of pain because the staph infection caused alot of damage to my right hip and the surrounding tissue and also did alot of damage to my si joint and I have constant sciatic nerve pain, after a year I'm still only able to walk with a cane and my legs are so painful at times I just stay in bed as that is the only time I don't hurt.If I had it all to do again I don't think I would have let them do the laminectomy but then again I might not have made it through ,I'm now 45 years old and my life is pretty much shot but is still keep pushing, just gotta keep going regardless of the pain.I wish all of you who have been through this hell the best ,and I hope you can all find some kind of relief from the horrible pain...

Rude. Insensitive. Why even post that to a guy that clearly is in pain. Maybe he needs a new doctor. You don't have a clue.

I have had 3 back lumbar fusions and my most recent is two months ago. I walk daily to try and recover plus physical therapy and has Benny's back to work for three weeks now. I am having lots of issues with my legs/thighs but rarely below my knees. I can say it's been severe pain. Does anyone know how much longer I will be in pain? I luckily see my doctor in 3 days. But I feel in misery, even pain meds don't help and hurt to walk. I still make it a point to walk daily because I want to recover and get better. Any time frame on how much time it will take?

Dude, you are a jerk and need to stay off any site where people are reaching out in pain! I had Anterior & posterior cervical fusion and complete laminectomy. 1 yr later, last year, I had lumbar fusion. One side of my neck did get better, but the pain moved to the other side and I also now have severly impaired neck mobility, Luumbar surgery did not take ANY of my pain away, but I did get nerve damage from it. Besides the back pain that continues to radiate down my leg and into my foot AND switches from left left to right leg sporadically, my thigh is now costantly numb with stabbing pain that feels like it's on fire!
As one of the other people on here posted, We all have different pain and the way we feel pain. Dude, get a heart! You need to learn to be kind.

See if you can find a doctor who does stem cell therapy. Unfortunately, most insurance will not cover it, just like acupuncture. Sometimes it's those things that help the most. I've read a lot from people who have literally been saved by stem cell therapy for a wide range of issues, including failed back surgeries.

Are you kidding me? Take it easy in guy number 1, you know the one you are holding to the flame! Everyone's pain tolerance is different. I am talking from experience, 18" zipper, 16 screws, 2 cages multi tier fusions, 2 rods, spinal cord stimulator and all because I suffer from Degenerative Disc Disease. took 3 surgeries to accomplish this. My pain level varies from time to time. Only he will know if pain medicine is controlling him or not. Kind of like an alcoholic, until he realizes he has a problem then he won't "get it". So be a bit more supporting and not so angry and at him.
