Unfortunately, it can. A person that manages to get the disease under control after the treatment may experience relapses. In that case, their chances of long-term survival are not that high. The chances of survival i.e cure are low and may range from ten to fifty percent. The chances may be quite low if the relapse occurs shortly after the treatment (within the first year). The chances are somewhat bigger if the disease reoccurred later than that.
When the relapse occurs, a patient is treated again with the same therapy, but probably higher doses. Some of the patients may require stem cell transplantation.
Sometimes Hodgkin's disease reoccurs in form of leukemia. If it does, it happens 5-10 years after the treatment for Hodgkin's.
