hi I'm just reading this. I am 15 years old and i have had acne for 5 straight years. never have i seen my face completely clear. there have always been small bumps on my face. I have heard accutane completely clears it, but is it true? i am currently on sulfamethoxazole tablets and a tropical differin gel for night. 1.) would you recommend actuate? 2.) would I stop taking my tablets if i went on accutane? 3.) would it help my acne if i was on both my accutane and sulfa tablets?

I am now 46 years old and have some advice for you all in my old age. Lol From the time I was 15 till 30 years old waking up everyday looking into the mirror with horror. My acne was bad but nothing like the modifying examples they show in the doctors office. The truth is everyday I looked in the mirror I died inside knowing I had to at first go to school and then later in life to work. You just get so tired emotionally by the everyday dealing with it.
I started Accutane on my 30th birthday. The first month was bad and it got worse. What you have to realize is that all the years of dealing with this problem has made you stronger and for the first time sense you can't remember there is light at the end of the tunnel. I know over the years you have tried everything with little to no results as well as the false hope which works only for a Hot Minute. By the middle of the second month you start getting a very dry face, lips and hair. What you body is doing is teaching itself how to control the oil in your body. By the third month, your nightmare is over.
I remember during my third month having only one pimple on my face and it was hard and round but this time when I popped it a hair came out of it. It was a in grown hair and instead of my body torching me it just popped out.
I have now gone over 10 years with almost no break outs to speak of until the last year. It started back slowly then now in the last year has gotten where I have about 10 huge bumps on my face. I went to my doctor and just started another round of Accutane. It has been a week and u am already starting to clear up.
I have not even thought about Acne in years. Over that time I have noticed other people who have the issue as a guy who has a totally clear face. Trust me when I say, it is allot worse in your mirror and through your eyes. If you just started taking it then Calm Down, Relax and find some Belief because it will work. You life will be full of other things to worry about. I know the words don't give you much comfort.

Obviously they know about all the side effects because they were already prescribed the medicine, which means that a doctor thought their acne met and criteria to allow it to be prescribed. Think before you comment.

If your going to listen to any of these comments listen to this one. I start week 4 tommaro. My acne has gotten so so so so much better in 4weeks. I seen improvement in 3 days. I seen so much less redness and then after 7-10 days my bumps were getting smaller and going away. My face felt better then ever I. Already week 1-2. But then as told I would.I broke out in all week 3-4 (I'm still getting rid of some of the pimples) but honestly the break outs weren't even that bad. Maybe 2-4 maybe 5. But accutane is a life saving miricle and I promise you that the side affects are nothing to worry about. Chapped lips. Dry skin and sometimes nose bleeds. Nothing that hurts just annoying. Take accutane if you have acne. Thank me later. (Last thing) depression is not even a side affect most of the time cause you are feeling like it is working,(wich it is) so you worry about nothing knowing its getting better.

Be careful what antibiotic you take with Accutane ... tetracycline or minocycline interacts with Accutane and can cause swelling of the brain !!!

ive been using accutane for about a month and a half. havent seen much of a diference at all. very dissapointed with accutane at the moment but my face wil look better in less then a year. ive strougled with acne for as long as i could remember. i got my first pimple in grade 2. its vey imbarasing when everyone around u has flawles skin and there are with ur scaley pimpled face. accutane has some very dangerous side effect but not a lot of people get them. i was one of those who did get some of the side efecs. ive thrown up about 4 to five time. not plesant at all. ive also have been feeling extremely dizzy and tired. my face and lips has been so dry and scaley. my pimples arwe taking a very long time to go away. no sure i should recoment this pill. i do understand that i have severe acne and the worse it is the longer it takes.

I have been on accutane for 3 months and am starting my 4th next week, 80 mg/day. At first my acne got much worse, then it got better for a couple weeks until it started flaring up again. Its a rollercoaster but I'm going to stick with it, hoping for success in the 4th month.

Accutane is amazing!!! That's probably one of the best choices you're ever going to make. My advice for you if to drink ALOT of water and carry chapstick with you. Fortunately I never experienced dry skin, only side effect I have had is chapped lips. I've been on for a little over 3 weeks and I've seen amazing results. I can see it clearing my face everyday. Don't give up in the beginning, I've heard that for some people it gets worse, in my case it did not, and hopefully it doesn't for you. But good luck!

I'm a 22 year old female and I have been on accutane Roche (Canadian Accutane 40mg) every other day and apo-prednisone 5mg 2x/day for one month now. I had moderate to severe acne with the occasional cystic acne for 2 years now. During my first 1-3 weeks I broke out badly! I've read reviews saying some dermatologists tell you that not everyone goes through the purging phase but my derma told me that it is something everyone goes through. Lips are always dry, you'll need something on your lips 247! I put Vaseline on my lips non stop. If you already have dry skin (like myself) you need to buckle down and get a super moisturizing skin care routine. I cleanse my face with clinique oil then use Vaseline as a moisturizer. I know that sounds insane but my skin is so sensitive that ALL lotions burn my skin!!! Also putting Vaseline on stops your pimples from looking crusty and flaky (which they will) put a primer on your face then I mix my clinique oil (a couple of TINY drops) in with my foundation and my skin looks awesome. It's started clearing up now but make sure you drink insane amounts of water and moisturize. I drink water non stop but I always feel like I'm dehydrated and haven't drank a glass of water all day, no amount of water gets rid of my thirsty feeling!
