Who runs 5-6 days a week? And how does your body tell you when you're approaching doing too much? I mean, what are the signs?

LE,
I run Mon - Fri all the time, due to too many things going on, on the homefront with chores etc. I guess I just base it on my logs. If I know I have been putting in a lot of miles for a couple of weeks I try and schedule a light week to give my body a break.

I run 6 days a week, but I usually train 7 days a week.
I can tell when I'm overdoing it because I feel flushed for long periods of time after I've finished exercising. Sometimes an upset stomach too, but not very often. I'll usually have a crappy attitude too. Not necessarily about training, but about the little things that normally don't bother me.

Right now its run three lift 3. Once I get back up to speed will adjust a little bit. The key for me is mixing things up, running, biking, and lifting. Always take at least one complete rest day a week. It does a body good.

my goal is 5 days
usually get at least that
if i get a 6th it is a bonus
once in a while 7 if it works out that way
i like 5 because it allows for unforseen things that pop up

I usually aim to do something everyday. I seem to have a day once a week where I kinda crash.I get very fatigued and feel like eating everything in sight! So that is how I choose my rest days.

signs = getting injured; aches and pains that do NOT go away before the next planned run and do NOT somehow get better when you run anyway.
All the other responders to your question seem to be experienced, sane runners. I just thought I'd give an example of what not to do and how not to be :)

When I run more then 4 days a week I get injured. I think I have finally learned my lesson
I usually train 7 days a week. I take a day off when family/work/overtraining demands it.
Monday and Friday are rest days for legs. I swim and on Mondays Karate.

I run a minimum of 5 days a week, Mon thru Fri. in the a.m. before work. Will be up to 6 days a week when I start Sunday long slow runs shortly after the first of the year. Weight train 5 days a week also, different muscle groups. Saturday is my rest day, usually too much stuff to do to think about running anyways.
I can usually tell I'm overdoing it by my knees beginning to ache or recovery time from a particularly good run taking longer than usual.

My plan is to run 6 days a week, Mon through Sat, with Sunday off no matter what. Occasionally, like this week, something will happen where I won't be able to run. When I do other activities such as lifting, swimming, biking, I add them to my running schedule, since in my mind, they are separate things.
I can tell when I've done too much by the feeling of tiredness. I just can't seem to get enough sleep. That's when I will take a day off, like this week, and that normally allows me to feel 'refreshed' to get back out there.
Good to see you again Joplus!

i'm not sure i've experienced this personally, but i've read that overtraining will show itself in your resting heartrate being higher than normal. i think it's like your body just can't downshift after a workout or it is literally due to "stress" of overtaining. take your resting pulse. if it seems like it is racing, or you feel your heart racing during rest periods, it is time to cut back.
