My husband suffers from what is called retrograde ejaculation. As I know it is where sperm doesn't come out it goes backward into the bladder. We have found that Sudafed, the stuff that is in cold pills, is helpful. I don’t know if we should keep with this.

Retrograde ejaculation is associated with a diminished volume or complete lack of seminal emission. It is often the first symptom of diabetes mellitus. The diagnosis may be confirmed by microscopic examination of a posteiaculation urine specimen. Sudafed 120 mg 3 times daily will convert approximately 25% of men to antegrade ejaculation. Ejaculation with a full bladder is sometimes helpful because a full bladder stimulates increased a-adrenergic activity at the bladder neck.

The surgery was to correct a problem with a distended bladder and problems urinating.A biopsy was done(negative). The prostate was not enlarged. This was to open up the eurethra through the prostate. Is there any thing that I can do to correct the problem? I am 53 and this bothers me very much. My GP is not familiar with the problem and knows how upsetting it is, but has no solutions. I have COPD and Depression, any chance the medication I take for either may be contributing to the problem?

Don't know about your medications maybe causing this. It's possible. Or it may be a complication of the surgery - it's on the list of standard complications.
Turns out the odds of getting this "complication" depends on how your surgeon does the procedure. The Greenlight promo brochure states 30% of patients will experience retro ejaculation for up to three months post-op but that usually goes away. Various other web sites about the procedure have that same info. I'm five weeks post op, am experiencing the retro thing accompanied by significant pain in the final parts of the retro ejaculation, and today the surgeon told me that the way he does the procedure the retro thing is 100% guaranteed and worse yet it will be permanent. Direct quote: permanent retro ejaculation is the price you paid to have a better stream.Don't know why he does it this way but he didn't make it clear before the procedure. Had he done so I would have found a different surgeon. I'm only 57 and my sex life is now over thanks to this procedure. Extremely distressed by the outcome of the procedure - easily the worst decision I've ever made in my life. I would have been better off if the surgeon had just used a 12-gauge to gut-shoot me.

My Dr. failed to mention this before hand. When asked , he said it my get better it may not, turned and left the room. Having been trying to reseaarch on-line for the last 2 yrs. I would have never has had the surgery, or bad aim with a lazer. Gets very frustating,,Some men say no mess, no worries, At 55, I would still like normal sex life.

I am 46 years old. I had surgery for a tumor in my colon. They did a colon resection on me. I am also left with this terrible Retrograde Ejaculation and it totally bites! My girlfriend has been so cool about it but its really bugging me. I have an appointment Tuesday with a Urologist at a VA medical center. I tried sudafed last week and it flipping worked!! I actually had a discharge! I couldnt believe it. On the first shot to! It seemed like semen without sperm but I was just happy something came out! I took one tablet of the sudafed.
Ill see what this doctor says and report back for everyone who is going through this. Im still young enough so this is a real problem for me.%-)

Well the urologist was worthless. I knew more about Retrograde Ejaculation than he did I swear. He never gave me a solid answer and said that maybe it would get better. He was not sure. Unreal. I told him about Sudafed and he did agree on that at least. No definite answer from this id**t though.
