Why on earth did your babysitter find that out!? I'm not an expert so sorry if I'm wrong but don't you think that it's a little odd that the babysitter managed to accidentally look inside that far?

I had a hymenctomy today thanks for your post I was thinking of doing IVF because of my age which is 40. I had not had sex with my husband for tens years because I was scared now we are ready to have children and will be trying to have kids and if that doesn't work we will have IVF. I was embarassed to have this procedure done don't wait if u can't have sex naturally have the proocedure it is very simple and minor. U will go under general ansthesia and then u will wake up in a hour you can go home. It was so simple wish I had it earlier. Please don't be embarrassed to have it. If you are really embarassed to have it have it in an outpatient hospital clinic the procedure went well. I just had some pain when I went to the bathroom and some soreness. All went well thanks to the great team at the center that I went to. For those of you who have no insurance you can do this by paying the total cost of my surgery was 810.00 dollars. Thank g-d everything went well.

Oh God, what a weird experience. Hymenectomy normally is a very small operation permitting you to go home that very evening. So you say you are missing your "inner lips"? Well, it is difficult to judge that statement as long as you had not checked out their size before the surgery. Some girls have very small, almost invisible inner lips, others have very long and protruding ones. But anyway, if you did have visible inner lips before, and now you dont have them any more, something very substantial must have gone wrong, and it is suggested you see another doctor as soon as possble to find out what could have happened. Hymenectomy normally involves incising the hymen only, and not cutting anything off. It could of course be that your performing doc messed up the hymenal incisions and thought he could mend the problem by cutting off a bit more, and again a bit more, and so on, until your inner lips, virtually framing your intact hymen, had gone... This, however, would qualify as an almost criminal act that should never have been done without your written concent and agreement. Whats gone is gone, just like with the boys and their fioreskins at circumcision.

I just had a hymenotomy yesterday morning. The bleeding is essentially like having a period. I'm still bleeding, but very lightly. The soreness is manageable, but urination hurts. Coughing and sneezing ALSO hurts. ;). They told me the healing time should be around 7 days. My procedure went very smoothly, and I got to go home the same day. I had the procedure because my opening was too small to even get a tampon in. My OB performed the surgery himself. :)

I had the same problem. I'm a teenager so when i had my period i couldn't go to the beach. It was a really easy process, the doctors take very good care down there so you shouldn't be nervous at all. The recovery is super easy, it may hurt a little but that's just normal. I would actually recomend doing the procedure because since then my life has literaly been much easier and my period doesn't hurt as much as it did before.

This is the strangest thing I've ever heard. I just had the procedure done today! I was incredibly nervous but the doctors and nurses were all so wonderful and made sure I was as comfortable as possible. I got to the hospital and got checked in then I had nurses coming in to get vital signs and my weight and whatnot. I gave a urine sample and had an IV put in. Once they were ready to take me to the operating room, they gave me some medication through the IV to make me feel more comfortable. Then off I went! Once I was in the operating room they moved me onto the table and that's pretty much all I remember. I had general anesthesia. So I was totally out. I had a breathing tube and a catheter and everything. Next thing I knew, I woke up in the recovery room. I was NOT awake and did NOT feel a thing!

Me too! I found out I had an imperferate hymen my freshman year of high school. I had the surgery for it and it hurt right when I woke up from surgery, but other than that it didn't hurt at all and the recovery was easy.

I am 15 and just had one today, I was freaking out because of the IV but after that everything is fine and you wake up and don't remember. It's a little sore but I am on meds to help the soreness and I was actually on here to see if it hurts when you pee because I'm scared to hahaha. But yeah omg it sucks having to wear pads especially not wearing leggings

I am scheduled to have one next month. I read some where from another person who had this procedure done that their "inner lips" were no longer there or as visible as they were before. Has this happened to anyone else?

I'm definitely someone who diagnoses myself after typing my symptoms in on Google, but for the first time ever, I wasn't wrong. I'd had troubles with tampons for a while and always found that I could never quite understand where they went and whenever I did, I seemed to just hit a wall, but I was never alarmed at this. But then me and my boyfriend tried to have sex and found some problems. It was so painful I thought I was going to pass out, we kept trying but no luck what so ever. It was clear I had a problem, so after 3 months of being scared to face them, I finally decided it was time to see my local doctor. so fastforward, I had a Hymenectomy ( or hymen incision) yesterday after 5 months of doctor appointments and scans and tests. I had been researching the procedure a lot before I had it, to ease my nerves, so I thought I'd write a post on it myself. The actual procedure is pretty straight forward, and nothing to worry about. My surgery was In the morning so I couldn't eat after midnight or drink after 6am. There's about an hour set up before you can go to the operating theatre including pregnancy tests, blood pressure and changing into the your gown etc. if you haven't been told, I'd be bring a night robe and some slippers, as the gown they give you opens at the back. Anyway after you've talked to your nurses, the anaesthesia people and your surgeon. They take you to the surgery room. You'll be out on IV and attached to a heart monitor and your blood pressure is checked, I don't find injections bad so it wasn't bad at all. Anyway you'll start to find yourself drift off, and then it'll feel like a dream before you find yourself waking up in recovery. The whole thing seems over in a couple of minutes. You will be sore and bleed. I found the gauze the worst part as it made me very sore. You'll have to eat, drink something and been seen by your doctor before you're dismissed. I'd definitely suggest bed rest after it, I spent the whole day in my sofa watching movies. Painkillers are a must which I discovered the next day once mine has worn off- ouch. But if you are worried at all or concerned, don't be. I went to every appointment and scan myself except for the actual surgery where a relative is required. The staff were great and supportive and talked me through the whole thing making it really easy.

I was wondering if anyone can help me ,
It's rather urgent I'm supposed to have a surgery this week...they don't know what the problem is yet but I can't put a tampon in ( mid teen) and it hurts really badly . I've been waiting for this surgery for a while and am nervous but excited to have it
One problem ; I'm on my period. Do you think this will be a problem ? Or is there a pill or something that I could take ??
Thanks

The hymen is NOT always thin. And that is exactly why hymenectomy candidates might opt for the surgery. An abnormal hymen, which can be quite large and/or thick, can be asymptomatic in day to day life but otherwise tender to the touch and cause excruciating pain during sexual intercourse, even if penetration is possible. The hymen can be broken up into parts that allow an opening large enough for penetration so the term "imperforate hymen" can be misleading in cases of hymenal abnormality that allow for penetration, albeit with tremendous discomfort. It's very possible that the gynecologist may not comment on the condition of the hymen at routine appointments, typically asking IF you are sexually active but rarely asking if this is a comfortable, pain-free experience, unless you bring it up. If using tampons or menstrual cups is painful for you and you see some prominent tissues sticking out around the inside of the vaginal opening then please see a doctor who can help diagnose a thick hymen do a q-tip test (to see if the hymenal tissue is a source of pain) and discuss if a hymenectomy/ hymenotomy might help you.
