Hi there,
It's okay to be nervous, it is a big deal, but please do not worry at all. It's been 3 months since I had mine and I am perfectly fine.
And in regards to people seeing you 'down there' don't worry at all, it's their job they're completely used to it, so don't feel uncomfortable. They see women's bodies all the time that it's not a big deal so don't feel awkward. You won't even know they've seen it because you won't remember!
And no the only pain you may feel will be the needle to make you knock out, but you won't feel or remember a thing, so don't be concerned about being in pain! After the surgery you may be sore, but nothing painkillers won't fix.
Please don't stress, it'll be over before you know it. Many people have had this surgery, it's simple and will be quick. So don't worry

I'm 17 and have the same problem and I'm scared on weather to have the surgery or use dialators. I also have a non arched pelvic bone so im worried about all of this.

Hi, I had a hymenectomy surgery a month ago and I got a 3-day-long psychotherapy after the operation with 4 different kinds of dilators. I didn't experience any problem while inserting those dilators into my vagina. I was totally comfortable with them except the biggest one (it's not important because my doctor told me that size is bigger than the real penis size). We finished up the excersizes in 3 days. And I thought I totally got over this heartvreaking illness and can have a normal relation with my future partner withought any problem, withouht letting him know my past terrible experiences and my hymen problem . But now I'm a little bit concerned because my doctor gave many directives about how to do my first relation. I'm ok with all those instructions but that means letting my partner learn everything about me which I hate. In fact I had a complete self-confidence about the penetration till she gives me all those instructions!
As for your question about the look of down there, personally I hadn't enough courage to see there so I didn't attempt for 3-4 weeks. But before seeing the doctor again for therapy, I looked down there and everything was normal. Inner lips were there. But dont worry because the only thing the doctor does is to remove the thin thing which is 3 cm inside of The vagina. There is no possibilty of him to touch or remove the lips.

Hi! I've just read you also had your hymen removed. I had mine too a month ago and also got 3-day-long psychotherapy. We worked with the 4 different size dilators with my therapist and I also did the exercises at Home on my own. I didnt feel any uncomfortable thing while working with them. The penetration was possible with all of them (only I felt a little pain with the biggest one but that's ok because that's an exaggerated size, I mean bigger than normal penis size my doctor says). But after finishing the cure my doctor gave me many instructions for the first real relations for example about how to make the penis penetrate into my vagina and which positions to use etc. Also she told me to work with the dilators 30-15 mnts before the relation. But the problem is doing all of them means letting my partner know all about my hymen and vaginusmus problem. I was planning keeping all this hymen problem inside of me so now Ifeel so concerned about my first relation :( I dont know anybody to learn this. So my question to you is 1) did your doctor give you similar directives to you? 2) have u had your relation after the surgery? 3) what was it like? Did you follow the instructions before relation? I'm so concerned right now that I'm about to giving up my sex life for The rest of my life. :(
My problem was never psychologic and I didnt have any anxiety about penetration or having sex but now I have. Pls help me if you had had any experience after surgery. I need to hear something relaxing. Thank you! I can also give you my e-mail and talk. Sorry for my terrible English I'm not native. :)

hi! I had a hymenectomy today and wanted to share my experience since there really isn't a lot about it on the Internet. I was really really nervous, but I realized it is nothing to stress about AT ALL. I was told to not eat or drink ANYTHING (not even water) at least 8 hours before the operation. I also wasn't supposed to use synthetically fragranced shampoo or body wash, no perfume, no deodorant, no nail polish, no jewelry, or lip balm.
So when my mom and I got to the hospital where the surgery took place, we signed in as you normally would. When I was called back, my mom had to sign all these consent forms. They needed a urine sample so I had to use the restroom for that. The nurse asked the typical questions about my health and health history and then she gave me a gown and socks to change into. Later, my OB/GYN came in and talked about the procedure and what to expect, and then the anesthesiologist came in and talked about what will happen right before the surgery (when I'm put under anesthesia). After, we waited for about 30-45 minutes and then I was taken to the surgery room. I was laid down on a cushioned table thing (idk what to call it) and the nurses and surgeons explained what would happen next. First, they taped what I figured was a pulse monitor thing on my finger (no needle involved!!) and then a laughing gas mask was placed over my nose and mouth. Its hard to remember what happened after this because the gas made me loopy and "high". But from what I somewhat remember, one of the doctors was talking me through what she was doing (I was becoming woozy from the laugh gas at the time so it's hard to remember what she was saying. I remember hearing her talk but it was hard to make out what she was saying). She sprayed a numbing spray onto my hand where the IV with the pain meds and anesthesia would be and she stuck the IV in my hand, which I felt (felt like a shot) but it wasn't too bad because I was all drugged up with laughing gas. After that, all I remember was the doctors standing around me talking and I guess waiting for me to fall asleep.
I sort of remember waking up in the recovery room to a tube being taken out of my mouth. This didn't hurt, especially since I was still groggy. I was falling asleep off and on. I didn't really feel any pain, the only "pain" was in my vagina, but I wouldn't even call it a pain, it was more like that feeling you get when you have a front wedgie lol. just a bit uncomfortable but definitely bearable. The nurse gave me some water to sip on and we waited for me tone cleared to leave the recovery room. I was then wheeled (I was on a stretcher type thing) to another type of recovery room where my mom was there to greet me. There, I had help with putting on my clothes. A pad was stuck onto my underwear for any blood from the surgery (little to none for me). The nurse took the IV out and gave me a little time to wake up. Then I was put into a wheelchair and was wheeled out to the car and I headed home!
After I got home I was still tired from the anesthesia. The doctor told us before that I should take eating slowly, because the medicine can make you nauseous and sick to your stomach. So far, I've felt fine. I ate some jello, Mac n cheese, and a hamburger and I felt perfectly fine. This may not happen to you but the doctor told my mom that during the procedure they had to do something with my bladder so when I use the restroom for the first time, it will sting a little. So I went to the bathroom and it did sting. It wasn't completely horrible, but I had to pee in little bursts if that makes sense. There was no blood in the urine but my pad and the toilet paper had a little blood on it. I haven't gotten the guts to look at my vagina to see what it looks like lol.
That's really it. It's really nothing to be afraid or be nervous about. If you get really nervous and anxious, tell them and they will give you medicine to help. Not painful for me, just slightly uncomfortable. Like I said, going to the bathroom shouldn't sting since I had something extra done during the operation that made it sting, but I guess there is still a possibility it could sting depending on how much they had to remove. My doctor told me there shouldn't be any scar tissue since all that was cut was the membrane tissues and not the inside of anything else. I hope this helped any of you out, and good luck! You'll be fine!!

Don't leave it too long. Do talk to your doctor. I had the same and went through years of being diagnosed as being a hypochondriac. The pain when my body tried to menstruate was excruciating. The operation was, comparatively, a doddle, although mucky. If I hadn't had the snip I would not be here today!

This is a ridiculous answer. No little girls probably don't need this procedure at a young age unless it's medically necessary however, we are born with vaginas and they are explored much earlier than 12/13. How did you not know you had a vagina? We as mother should be talking about vaginas, self love and worth, period, etc etc - LONG before 13! Not talking about it, isn't the way.

I'm not sure you'll ever see my message since your post was so long ago, but here is some pricing info. The hospital that I went to normally charges about $6500 for the surgery but since they are contracted with my insurance company, they are charging about $3500. You are responsible for your entire deductible. Fortunately, I have already met my deductible, so I am only responsible for my 20% coinsurance, which comes out to be about $750. These are based on my my particular insurance plan benefits, yours will be different

hi, i don't know if you need this answered since im a little late, but my surgery was roughly 1,000 dollars..i have insurance though. So if you dont have insurance it's going to be very expensive..like maximum 8,000 dollars.

Hi i am fifteen and I went to a gynicologust to see why my stomach, pelvis had been so sore. My parents didn't believe me they thought I just didn't want to go to school but I realised that this pain was not normal. The gynicologust told me that I had my first period 3 years ago but it got stuck in my vagina and flowed back up towards my Fallopian tubes and stayed there for 3 years the gynicologust couldn't believe that I sat through this pain. I went to the hospital yesterday and got a hymenatocmy about 3 litres of blood came out (sorry if ur like wtf) but I'm okay now I think just wanted to share my story if anyone was on the same boat! It's 1 woman out of 1000
