Hello, guys. I have been recently taking some drug after the surgery, but I am not sure which it was. I am not sure whether it was morphine or its derivates. After taking it, I got some skin rash, but now I am not sure which medication I am allergic to. What should I do? Thanks in advance.

Hello. You should first talk to your closest family relatives. Ask them if they showed some allergy to morphine or its derivates before. My neighbor recently wanted to check whether she is allergic to morphine or not. She bought some over the counter painkiller called Solpadein. It is morphine derivate. If she is allergic to this medication, then there will be a great chance for having an allergy for other similar drugs. If you try this and get an allergy, then go and visit a doctor. I hope everything will be all right. Bye!

I know this was over a year ago but it is hard to pinpoint and it is a good idea to ask family. That said, I am allergic to morphine and there is no known morphine allergy in my family. And, I actually can take the derivatives as they seem to be changed enough to not provoke the reaction. I had a morphine drip with my first c-section and then duramorph (morphine injected with the epidural) the 2nd time. First time symptoms were profuse sweating (sweating is a side effect BUT we're talking sheets were soaking wet sweating) andc constant nasal congestion which they waived off to the flowers in my room (never mind that I had never been allergic to flowers before). The 2nd time I had told the anesthesiologist about the reaction prior to the c-section and he too didn't really think it was the morphine as it is actually somewhat uncommon to have a true morphine allergy. Well I was about ready to scratch my face off after the c-section and so they called him in and he said "I think you're probably allergic to morphine" and had to be given Benadryl until it was out of my system. I would list those meds that you were given and any time you are going to be medicated tell them that you had a rash but were taking this med, this one and this one at the same time so you aren't sure which one that it was.
