I had lumbar spinal fusion 11 years ago and suffered sciatic nerve damage and right foot drop after surgery. I recently had thoracic spine surgery a discectomy at level Y10-T11 and it was supposed to be same day, however I wasn't able to walk at all after surgery. I was kept in hospital the following day PT got me up with walker. Right foot drop much worse, numbness and tingling from midwaist, groin, buttocks to upper thighs, both legs and now left leg is also weak. I was sent home after 4 days. I can get around with a walker, but both legs are very weak, Right leg feels heavy and I have trouble lifting it. I have to be very careful not to fall, my balance is terrible. All of the post op numbness continues. My surgeon said he "thinks" I have re-expansion injury. What is it, does it get better? I haven't had my post op follow up with the surgeon yet. I am six weeks post op this week. I am worried this may be permanent damage. In the mean time, prior to surgery I could walk and drive. I can't anymore. The surgeon didn't seem to concerned the day I was discharged from the hospital. In the meantime, my whole life is changed.
