Hi, I have a surgery tomorrow, and I’m really scared! I don’t know much about hysterectomy because it all happened so sudden. Can you tell me what is partial hysterectomy, and is it a risky operation?

Hi, I had hysterectomy last year after I was diagnosed with cancer. Fortunately, it was an early stage cancer, so they did a partial hysterectomy. It means that they removed only my upper part of the uterus, unlike the total hysterectomy, which removes the cervix as well. Hysterectomy has some risks and it’s normal to be scared of surgery, but it has to be done, so try to relax. The risks are commonly blood loss, bowel injury, bladder injury and anesthesia problems. I don’t know what did your doctor recommend you, but I had to take a laxative the day before, because it’s better if your bowels are empty during the surgery. If you don’t do that, there is a risk that you will have constipation for few days after the hysterectomy, which can be hard to cope with. I recovered soon, and I didn’t have any complications.
