Hi. Every surgery has its` own risks. Most patients experience no problems after hysterectomy. However, there are certain risks, such as heavy bleeding (requires blood transfusion), bowel and bladder injury, anesthesia problems, and wound pulling open. Recovery will take time. Women are usually hospitalized for one or two days. Some women stay in the hospital for four days. If hysterectomy was abdominal, your wife needs eight weeks to recover. If it was vaginal, she will return to normal life activities after a week or two.
