Hi, I have been prescribed 2 mg. of hydromorphone for fibromyalgia and arthritis pain. (per day prn) I notice that it helps but everyone tells me it is bad that I am taking it. (I do not abuse it but take it when I feel a lot of pain). I also noticed some side effects and wondered if they are normal. I am a diabetic and noticed I will not feel that hungry for a while after I take it so have lost some weight. Not a lot just a few pounds. Is this normal and is taking this amount dangerous to my liver and kidneys or just in general? Thanks.

Hi honey! I take 6mg and have not noticed anything close to being addicted with these - I was addicted to Oxycodone and Oxycocet! Hyrdromorphone CAN cause constipation - which will make you feel less like eating! As with any narcotic you HAVE to be careful with your kidnesy and your liver, so I would hope that your doctor would send you for liver tests and kidney tests just to keep an eye on those levels! The good thing is that you are just taking this for pain and not for "feeling better" and also 2mg is not going to have that much of a build up in your liver and kidneys! So as long as your doctor watches your levels you will be fine! One doctor told me that medically it is FAR better for you body to be out of pain than the CHANCE that you might become addicted! As being in pain causes MASSIVE amounts of stress to your body! Best of luck honey!
