You need to wait at least 2, preferably 3, weeks after sex to test. She must also use her first morning urine (wake up pee) for the best accuracy.

Irregular or not, testing early a false negative is common. It's the "default" response on the test. She does need to wait the 2-3 weeks after sex, at least. Even then, the tests don't always work.
