I just has a septoplasty yesterday and woke up feeling great! When I woke up, I thought that they hadn't even done the surgery yet. I had no pain and felt terrific. When we left the hospital, we went to sonic and i ate everything that I usually do. No problems whatsoever. Today, I still feel great but now i'm a little congested, which is normal. I'm just wondering if my bone is gonna look straighter or if it's gonna still look crooked after the splints are removed. I'd like for it to look straighter but worried that it's still gonna look the same. I gotta make sure my 11 month old doesn't hit me in the nose. She's curious about the drip pad on my face. I guess it's a good thing she's staying at her papaw's for a while. I'll update y'all when I get the splints taken out.

I had the septoplasty and turbinate reduction exactly one week ago! The surgery apparently went well and was allowed to go home a few hrs after. Upon getting home I got a really bad cold and so did the rest of the family. The first few days were the worst of my life, probably due to the unfortunate interception of a cold, now one week on and my nose keeps having good and bad moments where its clear in one nostrill one minute and blocked the next. When I go to bed I try to wait till my nose is quite clear and it seems ok at first but as soon as I turn my head it gets blocked again and starts running. My nose is still painfull to touch, and the inside of my nose at the front seems bent where it wasn't bent before ( maybe just swollen where I think they made incision hopefully ) but all in all not looking to bad now. I was just wondering if anybody has had sore top palette by front teeth and sore cracked tongue with little white spots on? Is this normal as its been a week now? Thanks in advance

HI!
Today is day 2 for me. I had sept & rhino. I had too much projection, too much width and it was pretty crooked. It seems unbelievably straight under the splint.
I had pain right after I woke up & they increased my meds. I stayed on top of the pain pills all day & rested. I used Ocean spray & Afrin & that helped keep it moist & clean. I did bleed pretty steadily til that night.
I notice if you bend over even slightly, it increased the bleeding.
I was surprised to sleep through the night on my back. I woke up with a super dry mouth from mouth breathing. A humidifier helped.
No pain at all this morning, just a bit uncomfy. It is super stuffed up (I'm wondering if he put splints inside now) but otherwise, I feel good.
You can see already the difference which is crazy! It is super straight.
Oh, I do have some front teeth pain. Not so much pain but maybe numbness.
good luck!

I had septoplasty 4 days ago - the Dr. had to fracture my nose as well since I asked if I could get rid of the bump that came from breaking it 18 years ago in the first place. These posts have been very helpful to me. I am still in alot of pain and have terrible swelling and bruising underneath my eyes. (This probably wouldn't have occured had I not asked to have the bump removed.) My eyelids are very bruised as well, but it's getting better. I am down to taking 1 percocet every 6-10 hours, just enough to take the edge off. It is terribly uncomfortable to eat anything of substance so I have been living off of crackers, mostly saltines (to settle my stomach) and soft foods that come in cans (thick soups, Chef Boyardee and the like). Not really healthy but I eat them just warmed up enough and so I don't have to chew so hard. I can't really taste much of anything anyways.

My nose doesn't drain so much as it did the first 2 days, and that mostly just happens if I talk too much or laugh too hard. It bled pretty steady for about the first 24-36 hours, decreasing as time went on. On Day 2 I probably only changed the mustache dressing every 6 hours and there wasn't much blood coming out by then. I also have a sensitivity to bright light and loud noises but I'm sure that will pass as I continue to heal.

The morning after surgery (I had mine at noon the day before) I got up to get a glass of water, go to the bathroom and change the gauze under my nose and got very lightheaded and dizzy. I made it across the hall to the bedroom to wake my husband, walked a few steps and then fainted in the living room. I think it was probably from the anesthesia and the percocet combo and the fact that I stood up and walked around too much that first day. After that, I decided it was probably best to have my husband wait on me and just let him take care of me for a day or two – not an easy feat, but a nice perk if you've got someone willing to do it for you - plus it was mandatory in my instructions that someone stay with me for 24 hours after surgery : ) I also have not picked up anything heavier than a gallon of orange juice which is probably even pushing it at day 5.

I see the Dr. tomorrow - Day 6 - to have my nose looked at and hopefully get both the inside and outside splints removed. I had to get creative wearing my glasses as just laying them across the bridge of my nose over the splint is very painful. I thought having 2 days and the weekend (4 days in all) to recover would be enough time and I could go back to work at my desk job but wasn't quite up to so I took one more day off.

Thus far I would have to say the day of surgery and the day after were almost unbearable - even with pain meds (don't forget my nose had to be re-fractured. Everyone I've spoken to did not have to have that done and didn't hurt as much). Mostly because I was exhausted, it was hard to sleep upright and the plain old discomfort and pain made it almost impossible to sleep more than a few hours at a time. Even with having the splints and mucous/blood build up in my nostrils, I can already breathe better than I have for years. My left nostril was almost completely blocked of airflow prior to this surgery so on that note I am looking forward to fewer sinus headaches and infections.

I'll try to post again in a couple of days once I have the splints removed and my nose cleaned out.

I had a septoplasty a week ago and other than the occasional pressure I feel fine, I only had bleeding the first two days as long as do the nasal flushing I'm okay for now.

I had Spetoplasty surgery Tuesday morning. Today is Thursday, so like 2 days ago. I guess today is like my 3rd day post op.

I have pushed off this surgery for years! Not being able to breath out of 1 nostril has caused me more problems in my life than I can think of. So after 1 wife and a couple girlfriends, I finally decided to have the surgery done.

Tuesday morning we arrived at the hospital around 6:45am. My surgery was scheduled for 8:15 or so. They called me back and the nurse took my vitals and hooked me up to an IV to get my fluids up a little. I think I stopped eating 12hrs before too, so I was probably dehydrated.

The ENT dr stopped in and chatted about what he was going to do and the anesthesiologist stopped in too. Everyone was professional and weren't to concerned. (33 yrs old healthy male with no prior drug reactions)

Ok, so at like 8:30, they wheeled me back to the operating room. I jumped up and they strapped me down. The nurse said, "Are you ready to take a nap?". I didn't say a word because I was so scared. Then, I was out cold! I woke up in a staging room with blood dripping from my nose. I still can't really remember how I got where... I guess the surgery was like 45 minutes.

So I went back home Tuesday around noon and actually felt really good. I was put on antibiotics and pain killers. I was like, "This surgery isn't too bad!"....

Umm, famous last words I guess. My throat killed me the first day or so and still does, along with the back of my neck. Must have been when they shoved the tube down my throat to help me breath. Ouch! Also, just like everyone else says, my nose is completely plugged! I didn't have packing, just stents put up there. You can not breath out of your nose. Just isn't possible. So I really didn't sleep much Tuesday and Wednesdy nights... I just sleep whenever I can now. Today is Thursday and I woke up from a small nap.

Tomorrow, Friday (4 days post op) I get my stents out. I am looking forward to tomorrow so much. Scheduled to go back to work this Monday, so I am hoping I heal really good the next 3 days!

If you are thinking about the surgery, ask yourself if your current situation affects your life in negative ways like mine did. 2 people at my work had it done and 1 said it was the best thing she ever did and the other said he really doesn't see a difference.

I pray that I can breath freely now after this surgery. I'm probably not going to know for a couple weeks. Wish me luck!

My husband has to have a septoplasty/partial inferior turbinate surgery. He works in a warehouse where he is consistanley lfting 30 lbs or more to a height of 6 ft or greater, and pushing loads of 100-500lbs with steady walking long halways around the hospital he works in. How long should he wait before returning to work? He can take up to 4 weeks if the Dr approves it,should we get the DR to approve all 4 weeks?

Had my Septoplasty/Turb about 24 hours ago, I feel great. The entire procedure, from being put under, to waking up in the recovery room, to getting the gauss strips removed from my nose today was painless. I have been taking 2 Tylenol 3's with codine every 4 hours. If I were to rate the experience from 1 - 10, 10 being the most painful/uncomfortable I would give it a 0 haha. Maybe a 0.5 because of the prick I got when they started the IV to put me to sleep! For me the bleeding is still going off and on but its slow and doesn't really bug me, I am walking around and looking after myself no problem. I used Dr. Conrad in Richmond Hill for the procedure, really friendly guy. Now I just need to wait 2 weeks to get a general idea of what my nose will look like post surgery and decide if I need rhino. I was hoping to have my nose straightened a bit by the procedure, but its swelled so much right now there is no way to tell. I have the usual black rings around my eyes, and swollen bloody face, but I have been carefully applying ice packs to control the swelling.

Had septoplasty and terbinates trimmed yesterday and I'm feeling like c**p. I was in the OR about an hour and a half and in reovery for another hour. Initially, I felt well because of the sedation but once it wore of I started feeling aweful. I can hardly breathe and my throat hurts bad from breathing through my mouth. I had a lot of trouble sleeping last night and am feeling tired, but can't quite fall asleep because of the discomfort. I still haven't had the packing removed and so feel my nose extremely stuffy. I'm having a hard time swallowing or speaking for it creates a lot of pressure on my nose. In the morning i could barely walk but now, in the afternoon, I'm starting to be active again. It's too soon for me to feel okay, yet. But from what I heard after having the packings removed the breathing improves and my doctor says I'll be able to fully breath in a week or so. I have a very low tolerance to pain and discomfort and so I'm going crazy.

The worst part for me though was the IV, for I have a phobia of needles. One of the nurses was very clumsy and hurt me real bad when checking it, and I've had a lot of pain in my wrist ever since. So if you are afraid of needles and such make sure you have a nice, gentle nurse that will be careful and understand you.

She told me yesterday to take them out today and I have already taken them out,but I see that almost everyone else has waited about 5-7 days! I'm really worried this stupid nurse may have screwed my whole procedure up please help me!!!!! I don't want to go in for surgery again I'm 16 and I can't afford to miss anymore school :-(
