Hi Jayjay,

The timing is off a bit for implantation bleeding.  It normally, if it was going to happen, would have been about a week before her period.

You had sex "about a week ago?"  It's not likely she's pregnant.  Assuming a 28 day cycle she'd ovulate between days 11-16.  48 hours after ovulation the egg is no longer viable, able to be fertilized.  Day 1 is when her period starts.  You had sex around day 21, so probably 3 or more days after the egg was no longer viable.

It is probably her period.  I know that it being different it may be a bit scary.  Give it some time.  If it isn't normal and she wants to test you need to wait at least 2 weeks from when you had sex.

I don't think it's a sign of pregnancy.

Hope it helps.

Hi Lopez,

When you ovulate varies amongst women.  Usually it is near the mid point of your cycle.  You can find out when you ovulate using Basal Body Temperature.

Basically, your fertility is increasing until ovulation.  48 hours after ovulation, the egg is not viable.  His sperm can remain alive for about 5 days.

So, you had sex on January 2, 4, and 5.  Your period started December 20, so you had sex on days 13, 15, and 17.  Sperm could remain alive from day 13 until day 22.  Yes you could get pregnant.

Hope it helps.

Every woman is different Jay. It's what's normal for her that matters.

Still, it is unlikely she is pregnant. She can take a home test if she'd like but I suggest waiting a week or two. You need to wait at least two weeks from when you had sex.

Testing early will give a negative.
