I had the same kind of experience as a lot of you have had. Like many of you, I did think that maybe I was the only one that had experienced this. I was experiencing incredible cramps one morning before work. I hadn't had my period in a while (4 months) so I just figured since I had started my white bc pills then this would just be a little harder than most. By the time I got to work I felt like someone was stabbing me in my abdomen, pelvis, and vagina. I was sweating..I was in so much pain. I left work like as soon as I got there. By the time I got home (about 30 min drive) the tampon I put it right before I left was completely covered in blood along with my pants and seat. When I went to the bathroom blood was just gushing out. I put on a pad and laid down. When I got up I had a clump of tissue that had came out. I really didn't think much about it since I hadn't had my period in a while. So I get in the shower and start cramping worse. I had a huge membrane to come out while I was in the shower. The following couple of days were terrible. I ended up passing a few more clumps of tissue and then a hard membrane like object. So, it has been a month..I started my period again today. Not as bad as last month, thank God, but I am having heavy bleeding, little tissue loss, very light headed, and extremely bloated. Between my cycles I encountered the following: spotting, brown discharge, pain during intercourse, and I always seem to bleed after or sometimes even during intercourse.

The thing is...this is my 5th year in college. I am 23 years old and I am now in medical school. This was enough to scare me. I have had numerous classes, as you probably figure, and never has this been discussed. I feel your frustration...trust me. We had touched on endomeitriosis and miscarriages but never had I heard of my symptoms being included in either category. I have a ten day break and just wanted to read up on this since I had some free time. I must say I feel much better knowing I am not alone. I know it may be embarrassing to some but if you will talk to friends even family and tell them like I have, you will find maybe a few has experienced this also. I have two friends that have. I am going to share what I have found over the many of forums I have read.
A bit about me:
*Stayed on ortho tri cyclin low for 3 yrs
*Currently taking Yasmin
*Missed a week without taking pills
*Been on birth control since an early age
*I was told I had endomeitriosis
*cyst are present on my ovaries
*My physician said it was a popped cyst
*Not obese...2 % underweight.....used to be obese for two years due to car accident
*Only on one other kind of medicine
*Sometimes have problems with glucose levels
*Low blood pressue
*Sexually active
*Only having intercource with one partner
*Experiencing intense pain, swelling of vagina, soreness, and sometimes bleeding during and/or after intercourse
* Deep penetration especially flaired up symptoms
*I drink mostly wine and/or liquor maybe 5-6 times a month
*Bad eating habits, I do not eat just drink a lot of energy drinks

My symptoms during cycle:
*missed periods
*excessive cramping
*massive amounts of blood loss from time to time
*sheding of tissue
*excreting membrane like substances
*head ache
*feeling moody/depression
*glucose (sugar) level extremely low
*feel like passing out

Things I have found interesting that most of us share:
*almost 80% share the same types of symptoms I have had
*mostly everyone has been on some type of birth control at the time when experiencing this
*Not everyone is sexually active according to the posts
*Missing birth control pills is common
*Everyone seems to feel neglected by their physicians and/or is scared

So of course I love a challenge especially one where I feel like it will help a lot of people. But I do need some things from people so I can conduct a case study. No one can tell who is writing what so please give me all details: trust me it would gross most of you out the things I have seen or have had to do so far, so please do not be shy. I need this information to help me come to a conclusion. My physician is the same as most of yours. That is why I am going into the medical field. I feel like doctors do not listen to their patients anymore. I feel like I can pin point some to being because you are smoking with your birth control pills, heavy bleeding due to weight, endomeitriosis, and PCOS (which they know not a lot about). My symptoms are too severe for some and don't meet the requirements of others as most of yours. I feel like there is something being overlooked.

If you could answer the following::::::
1- What materials where lost during the cycle...its ok to be discriptive
2- Amounts of blood lost
3- If you are on a birth control method..if so what kind?
4- Age
5- Weight: not exact number just tell me if you are under-weight, over-weight, or at your ideal weight
6- Any other medicines taken
7- Symptoms at time of your menstral cycle: anything is helpful....sweating, moodier than normal, bloating, intense cramping....etc.
8- If you are experiencing anything in between cycles: spotting, cramping, cravings..etc.
9- If you are sexually active:
^^^Please post if intercouse hurts, experience bleeding, intense pressure...etc.
^^^How many partners at current time
10-Life style: drink, smoke, illegal drug use....sleep habits....eating habits

I will post also to let you know what I find out while I am doing my research. This will be amazing if I can figure out what is really going on and if predisposing factors are related or not. I have even asked professors and fellow students. Everyone is stumped!!!

I just had the same thing happen last night.

I started on Yaz this past month and last night I passed what can only be describe as a sac. It was about 4" long and 2" wide, with the "skin" about 3 mm thick. It was hollow inside and resistent to tearing. I didn't save it, but maybe I should have, to show the doctor or lab or whatever. I've never experienced anything like, and it totally freaked me out.

Otherwise, I'm in great shape. I'm 33, 104 pounds; I exercise regularly (I walk daily and am a yoga teacher). I don't smoke or use any recreational drugs. I sleep about 8 or 9 hours each night. I don't drink much caffeine (a cup of tea a day, more or less), I eat very well, and I'm not on any other medicines other than the Yaz. I'm not currently sexually active, and haven't been for several months. I've been tested for all STDs and am negative on everything. Like I said, I'm perfectly healthy, and this weird thing that came out of my body has totally freaked me out.

Please let us know if you find anything out. There doesn't seem to be any literature on it anywhere, just a few mentions on random blogs.

History: I'm 26, 5'2", 110lbs, I was a gymnast for 11 yrs as a kid, and am still fairly physically active, eat pretty healthy, smoke, drink once a week or so, and used to smoke pot. I've had a child over 5 yrs ago, been on both the Depo shot and the pill. I've been with the same guy in the past two months and we still use condoms even though I'm taking Yaz. Last month I gushed blood after sex, with no pain what so ever, however sometimes I do experience pain during intercourse. I've also had precancerous cells on my cervix when I was younger, resulting in a conization using the LEEP technique.

Menstral discharge and symptoms: My cramps started about 4 days ago, normal at first then progressing with each day (the kind that are relieved by bending and worsened by standing). Yesterday I began spotting. Today I began getting sharp pains that were only comparable to the beginning stages of child labor, and made me feel nauseous and like I was about to pass out. I passed a piece of tissue about the size of a grape, thick but still able to tear. This didn't scare me, because it has happened before, when I was 17. I was on Depo, hadn't had sex in almost a year, and passed a huge piece of tissue the size of my palm. My doctor explained that is was the lining from my uterus and that it gets heavily thickened because of the Depo, and eventually sheds.

What I have learned from my own research: Birth control works by thickening the lining of the uterus and cervix, to prevent sperm from entering. For some women this will thicken more than others depending on how the hormones effect them (usually it will effect more at the beginning until the body adjusts to the medication). And as normal, during menstruation the body passes the uterine lining, we just don't usually notice it because under normal circumstances the lining is very thin and breaks down as it passes. (I hope this eases some of you.)

I look forward to you getting a better answer than what I have so far. Thank you for looking in to this.

I'm no spring chicken, 49 and likely pre menopausal. Never had menstral cramps, mood swings or PMS, although my periods were always very heavy. I was hated by most women until a few years ago when I started getting cramps, and also started getting what seems like strips of tissue shedding from inside me. For the last year my periods have been irregular, and on annual screening have been diagnosed with a recurring cyst that comes and never quite goes away. Now two years later, with constant spotting, heavy periods I am told that I have a complex cyst, likely a "Chocolate" cyst, and that this cyst could be leaking which may be the cause of my pains.
Like the other women posting here, I have one partner for the last 20 years, and intercourse almost always results in spotting or bleeding, an is often painful. The pain on my side which used to cycle with my period but is now almost constant. I thought with age and less hormones these cyst should go away.
I now have a an appointment with a gynacologist, where my GP recommended a laporoscopy to remove the cyst and possibly the ovary. What is the downside to wait this out and hope it goes away when menopause hits. Or will it go away when menopause hits.
I'm the correct weight, don't exercise as such but walk a lot, I'm a social low volume drinker and never smoked. I eat OK, but I know I don't get enough vegetables.
Anyone out there in my age range with the same problem.
I heard something about acupuncture curing these types of cramps and cysts, has anyone tried one? I will come and post back, once I have had my appointment with a new Gynacologist.

I am 26 years old. I have no children. There is a recent history of women in my family having endomeitriosis. I am on BC, ortho-tricylion low and the doctors told me it would help but it doesn't. I was on the depo shot for six years. Then I took a break from birth control for a year (wasn't sexually active during this period). Then, I got on ortho. For the first three months I pretty much bleed the whole three months. When it finally stopped I bleed every 14 days for about a month and a half. If I had sex it hurt or caused bleeding(during). Finally, the pill seemed to start regulating the bleeding. I had my period on a normal schedule for the next four months. During this time my period was heavy and only stopped because of the pills. The periods lasted the whole seven days. I have talked to my doctor/nurses many times about these problems and they tell me to give it time the pills will help. Now for the last couple months I bleed during sex at least once a month. Last time I tried to have sex I was in so much pain I had to stop my boyfriend before we even really got started. I get exterme cramps that feel like a thousand people are stabbing me in the stomach all at the same time. I get migraines. My stomach gets so bloated I look pregnant. I am the average weight for my height. I am a vegetarian, but I do drink quite a few energy drinks. I do not smoke or do any drugs. I do drink sometimes, like maybe 5 times a month. I am sexually active with only one person and we have been together for a year. I hope this helps your study.

Okay, I am new to this and I am really curious as to what is going on with my body. Alright to start off I am 21 yrs old 110 lbs, no children. I was on the depo shot for three months did not get my last one, which was due on March 9, 2012. I have gone through chemotherapy at the age of 20, due to a dermoid cyst that ruptured and leaked on my right ovary. Which was removed. I am sexually active, and I do smoke ciggys. The last period I had was..at the end of february and the beginning of march. Sorry dont remember the exact date, which I always do :-|  . I have been diagnosed with bv, currently taking my medication for it. Okay to the point, around March 12th I was starting to have some abdominal cramps, and some backaches. I thought nothing of it, cus I was off of depo and my body was going through inhormonal balances. But then on the following week I was starting to have what I thought were pregnancy symptoms, I had unprotected sex with my now ex-boyfriend the first time on the 4th and then again on the 11th. There were times before that, however I dont remember. Anyways, these symptoms were annoyingly noticable. So I took two tests, the first automatic neg. and the second five days later, was a slower neg. (Dont know if this has anything to do with this). So I went to the clinic and got a test, which also came out neg. Im telling I was having the symptoms, for I had a miscarriage five months ago. Swollen breasts everything. So I was going though those for a couple of weeks. Then on the 23rd I had really bad abdominal cramps, and really dull backaches. I figured it was a miscarriage. I went to the bathroom and before I peed I felt something down there. I wiped and there was this little worm tissue like thing, I say it would fit on a nickel. And after I had peed I wiped, and on the tissue there was this weird thing. It was clear on the outside of it and had a dark red line thing in the middle, and on top of it was some white stuff. And ever since that following morning, I have not had any cramps as bad as I was having. Now its just a little bit. And I read on the side effects of metronidazole, which I was having whayt seemed like allergic reaction. I told my doc about this and all she said was "you are not pregnant" and after I described what came out of me, all I got was "I dont know." Sorry if this is not in the right category, but honestly I am scared of what is going on with my body:-) . Pregnant, or not? endometritosis? or what? if any of you can help me in anyway, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.!

I'd say endometriosis and fibroids. I'm 33 and this same thing has happened to me off and on my whole life. The fibroids can be confirmed by ultrasound and endometriosis by HSG. Please ask your doctor to take your problems seriously. I didn't and it resulted in me being infertile. Regardless of bearing children or not, it can cause other problems so it needs to be dealt with ASAP. Good luck and I hope everything goes well.

Im 40yrs old, 40lbs overweight. Have endometriosis and always suffered from heavy period. Im on Depo Provera but ive been bleeding non-stop for 2months now. The pill havent stopped the irregular bleeding. Suffer from vaginal dryness before the bleeding started. Painfull sex. Have 3 kids, aged 14,10 and8. Only had 1 sexual partner for 20 years. Im currently on Simvastatin 20mg(cholesterol), Atenolol 50mg (hypertention), half an asprin daily. Also been diagnosed with angina. My gynae says the irregular bleeding could be that the 3month injectable contraceptive dont go well with my chronic medication. I started a 21day contraceptive pill course to stop the bleeding, we'll see if it works.

Just a couple hours ago I just passed two pieces of tissue. I saved both of them. Once the menstrual blood comes off you can see that this thin tissue is white. It does tear. It is not hard. Each of these two tissues are about 2 inches in diameter. This menstrual cycle it has been pretty heavy. Today is the second day of my cycle. Usually my periods are not too heavy and they come kinda sporadically, but lately they have been every other month. I am on norethindrone birth control (commonly known as POPs). Two weeks ago I accidentally missed 2 days in a row. Other than that, I have never been more than a couple hours off from taking my pill at exactly the same time every single day. I am 19 years old. I am 108 lbs and I am 5 feet and 4 inches. I do not take any other medicines. Yesterday morning before I started bleeding I had some abdominal pain. I've been a little moody lately. None of this is out of the ordinary. In between cycles I sometimes see spotting but nothing more than a couple drops of blood. I am sexually active. Intercourse can be hit or miss. Sometimes it can feel great. And sometimes it can be painful. Recently my boyfriend tore me twice during intercourse. I'm not sure if that could leave scar tissue or anything. He is my only partner and as far as we both know we are STD free. As for my lifestyle, I do not smoke, drink, do any drugs. My sleeping habits could be better but I'm trying to work on that. I also could eat healthier but I'm also trying to work on that.

I hope this helps! Please let me know if you need anything else or find anything else out!

im not on birth control but a week or so before my period when me and my fiancé have sex pinkish clumps come out of my vagina. they arnt bloody but a little bit of pink blood is visible with deep penetration. ive never had this happen before and ive had three kids and two miscarriages. the membrane looks like the tissue youd lose during a miscarriage but after it happening a few months in a row now and negative pregnancy tests, I know im not pregnant. I feel concerned and its embarrassing.

After being diagnosed with PCOS at 17 years old, I have been on various types of contraceptive pill to regulate periods and stop acne and hair growth. I am now 25. I have recently started taking one, I cant remember the name, which I have never been on before. I am nearly finished my pill free week and have never had side effects this bad. During my second and third week my mood swings were worse than a teenager! And yesterday, during my period, I passed a very large piece of tissue. It was about two inches in diameter, after I opened it out. It also ring shaped. I knew it wasn't a clot as it was a whiteish colour with red lines. It had never happened before. I think it has something to do with the pill I am taking. With my PCOS I find it hard to get the hormone balance right. I have read that the membrane thickens with the pill. So, maybe with the imbalances, it got thicker than usual and was unable to break down in the normal way, so came out in one big piece. I am overweight due to PCOS and have been for most of my teenage to adult years. I have however lost over 10% of my body weight in the last few months and it is continuing to fall off. I am in a long term relationship, so only one sexual partner. The membrane this did creep me out, but I am pretty sure it is to do with too much or little of the right hormones. Especially because of the mood swings.

DId you find out what was the cause? Same situation and cramping really bad after my period and after I passed similar membrane/clots. Started BC after I missed period for 3 months.

I'm 18 years old, maybe slightly overweight (5'7" and between 160-165lbs, depends on the day). I have just recently started exercising about 3-4 times a week. I have been told I could potentially have Endometriosis and am on Sprintec for severe cramping, so I only get my period every couple of months. Recently, I went on a trip and forgot to pack my pills, so I missed two in the middle of the cycle. I started my period today, and it was one of the worst I've ever had. Extreme cramping, ridiculous mood swings (I am Bipolar, but these were definitely menstrual mood swings), and I was sweating like crazy. I was bleeding a little bit more than normal, but when I went to change my tampon, I discovered a large membranous "cyst" than was gooey and disgusting. I called a family friend who happens to be a doctor and she wrote it off as being uterine tissue that shluffed off, but the more I read the more I notice similarities about others who have experienced the same thing. Should I be worried? I have awful eating habits, sometimes I eat nothing and other times I eat everything in sight. I have also been feeling kind of "fuzzy", almost dizzy, like I couldn't focus. I am sexually active but only with 1 person ever. We do not use condoms, but STD's are out because we have never been with anyone else and if there is any sign we get tested. Intercourse can be very painful sometimes, when it feels like he is pushing way up against my cervix. Doctor said it is because my cervix is tilted. Hope this helps!
