I am having so many issues, I don't even know where to begin! First of all, I have gastroparesis, which is a digestive problem meaning my stomach has a really hard time digesting most foods. I end up drinking most of my food...protein shakes, smoothies, soup, etc. but can supplement with some soft foods. So there's my first problem! But I just started taking lo loestrin FE and am in my 3rd month. It has been MISERABLE. I'm not sexually active, but I was taking it for heavy periods that were debilitating. Like, couldn't go to work because I was in the bathroom every twenty minutes! There was a lot of clotting and it had just come on in the last few months. My doctor did a routine exam but nothing more and then prescribed birth control. All three months, I have had breakthrough. I know some of that is normal, but last month after two weeks in, I was fully on my period and remained so through the end of the pill pack...bad enough to need tampons. I'm on day 10 of my 3rd month and have just started spotting again.
On top of that, I have been going through a lot of bloating and rapid weight gain and I can't figure out if it's related to the pill or to digestive issues. For example, since Monday, I have put on 3.5 pounds. I know that's nothing too shocking, but it's a lot for me; my weight is usually stable within 1-2 pounds daily, and it's been a steady climb since Monday despite exercise and maintaining my eating habits. I've been painfully bloated, to the point that I can't eat much of anything. I guess the bloating is causing the weight gain, but I really really can't handle that. I'm a former anorexic, so any type of weight gain and stomach distension causes me tons of stress.
This is a lot going on, so maybe insight is impossible, but I'm just so miserable and falling apart! I'm unable to eat anything and still gaining weight, and my stomach is hurting so bad I want to cry, plus the spotting and bloating! I'm just wondering if there's some underlying problem that caused the heavy periods and the birth control isn't helping things. Ugh, I can't deal with it much longer!

May I suggest asking the doctor about the Implant, it's a really effective 3 year birth controll device, it's the size of a hair pin or about 1.5" long and it sits in your arm just under your skin. It's stopped my periods completely. I used to be on the pill, and it would leave me bloated around the time of my period, feeling lethargic, and worst of all I stand by the fact it added to me getting recurrent thrush. The pill works for some people, but it certainly upset me. The sugar coating on the pill might be playing up with your stomach issues? Many of my friends who have previously been on the pill and experienced similar issues to me, with the bloating etc, have now changed to the implant, not only is it effective when you are ill etc, it lasts for three years, and you don't have to remember to take it. they say they cannot guarentee that it'll lighten or stop your periods, but it might help. As for an underlying roblem this surely would have been picked up in the exam?
