My boyfriend and I have been together for over a year now. We touch each other and everything...But everytime we try to have sex, it hurts so bad. Sometimes we'll be rubbing against each other, and it'll almost accidentally go in...So we just stop. And don't go on any further. It hurts so bad. I know this happens to other people...But I'd love to know why. A finger or two is okay...Sometimes. But he just can't get in. I'm completely ready. But we just can't. Help!

Hi honey! It is to do with your hymen - the skin at the bottom of your vagina - when it tears there is pain, and depending on your natural lubrication or the size of your boyfriend it can be painful! The only way of limiting the pain is to stretch the hymen manually, using a lubricant either yourself or your boyfriend rub the area and apply pressure to the hymen and slowly circle it around, do this until it doesn't hurt anymore and then try, use lots of lubricant and be TOTALLY ready, because if you are tense you will be drier and will be hesitent about the pain and this will be on your mind! You might THINK you are ready, but really think if you have any hangups about it, because that will be hindering you too! It's about communication and tenderness, and being TOTALLY prepared and ready, and remember to use a condom and lubricant - NEVER take the chance of unprotected sex OK?
