Hi. My wife has several kidney stones and she`s been suffering a great pain. The stones couldn`t just pass, they were too big, and her doctor recommended her a treatment by ultrasonic waves, so called lithotripsy. Don`t know anything about that and would like to here from somebody who had that kind of a therapy.

Hi, I was on lithotripsy treatment (twice) and on some meds also. Extracorporeal shockwave lithotripsy is the most popular procedure. In ESWL, shock waves are passing through your skin, until they hit the stone. The stones break down into small, sand-like pieces and easily pass out through the urinary tract. It will take only a few days until recovery. Some complications are possible – blood in the urine after the treatment and brusing are very common. Sometimes, like in my case, one treatment is not enough. It is interesting to say that potassium citrate is good for kidney stones and prevents stone formation following lipotripsy.
