I had my LEEP done today, the only thing that hurt was the shot, and it was more pressure, burning sensation then pain. My doctor did apply some type of spray that was suppose to numb the area before the shot, I still felt the shot but that was honestly the worst part. The actual LEEP part I knew she was doing something but there was no pain. It took less them 30 mins and I was on my way home. I would suggest that you bring someone with you to drive you home. Still after 4 hours I have no pain, no cramps, no bleeding, no discharge. If you go through this and feel the whole thing in my opinion it is time to find a new doctor. As long as you have a good doctor that trys to make you feel as comfortable as possiable during your LEEP you will be fine.

I had the leep procedure in December of 2009 ... and I still remember it quite vividly. I have an extremely high pain threshold and it was painful. If you have the option of being sedated I would recommend it. I was numbed ... and felt the whole procedure.
If men had to have this procedure they would figure something out ... I really believe that.

Thank you for the most sane post here. I would ask those who post the most negative experience you can do not go into heavy detail. Everyone experiences a procedure different, yes it was uncomfortable that is to be expected. I am a needlephobe and to me that was the worst. My doctor had some issues getting a speculum to fit because I apparently am very tight, even after three kids. But I had it yesterday, small amount of discharge, no biggie. The colposcopy was more uncomfortable personally to me. But please do not post these horror stories, if it wad so terrible for you I would suggest a new physician.

I literally JUST had the leep procedure done about an hour ago, and I normally never comment on these things.. BUT after reading horror story after horror story and literally being soo freakin' nervous and scared for the last two weeks straight I felt that I HAD to tell you guys not to read these stories!! I understand everyone is different and different experiences are expected.. But I am not kidding, I was freaking out, shaking, high blood pressure, made my mom take the day off work to come with me (and I'm 26 haha), I thought this was going to be the worst thing ever. I 100% can promise you that with my experience the colposcopy hurt WAY worse than this whole procedure did! I would way rather have this done 100 times over again than ever having a colposcopy. The medicine is weird how it makes your heart beat really fast and I felt like my head was super cloudy, but it was over so quickly! Totally feel so much relief!! Good luck everyone, don't be scared anymore!

I had a colpopscopy and then a LEEP three months later. Definitely ask to be put under. I had the most pleasant experience ever at the surgery center here. The nurses were all helpful and nice -- and they even numbed my hand before they put in the IV! I went in about 6am to start paperwork and preop - went back around 7-7:30 and was home and resting on the couch by 9:30. So far i've only experienced mild cramping the day of; and some light bleeding. I had the procedure on Friday....stopped bleeding Sunday (after laying around doing nothing all weekend). Went back to to work Monday and felt more sore with the bleeding starting back up. But still; nothing excruciating -- nothing worse than a period. Just uncomfortable. The bleeding is freaking me out a little tho -- it seems to be getting heavier...but hopefully it'll ease off.

hey there ladies,
i read this forum last night and just had my leep about an hour ago. it really freaked me out reading some stories about this procedure, and the best advice i can give anyone is DONT READ THE HORROR STORIES, but i know that's not likely and, if you're a worry wart like me, you will read this forum too, so i wanted to come on here and tell you ladies about my positive experience!
I was a nervous wreck, but I kept telling myself that this is important to my health and going through a few minutes of discomfort is way better than having cancer. I took a couple of ibuprofen pills half an hour before. The set-up of the equipment honestly took more time than the procedure itself.
First she put the speculum in, which is apparently a bit bigger than the normal one but I did not really notice. Then she swabbed my cervix with that vinegar solution to make the abnormal parts stand out. She then gave me the needle, which I was most worried about, but it honestly was nothing, felt like a pinch. And she said I might feel my heart race because of the adrenaline but it was already racing from nerves so I didn't notice haha. Then she takes the piece of skin off, which is like suctioned off with a vacuum, and then she cauterizes the area to stop the bleeding. It honestly took 5 mins max! I couldn't believe how fast it was over. Now I have some mild cramps but it's just like any period pains. I am in bed with some comfort food watching the kardashians haha.
So please do not get discouraged and drive yourself crazy with reading the horror stories and worrying; just remember that it is over in minutes, just breathe and talk to the nurse about something else, or listen to music, or if it helps you to hear from the doctor what she is doing, ask her! Honestly just calm down, you are SO lucky to live in a country where you have this technology and are able to prevent cancer within minutes!
