I had a LEEP done yesterday. I was terrified to have it done after doing research on the internet because so many have said how painful it was for them. I guess I just had a good and careful doctor, because I didn't feel anything. I am hypersensitive to epinephrine, so I requested carbocaine injections to numb my cervix so I wouldn't go into a panic attack. I couldn't even tell that she was injecting me with the needles. The actual procedure was simply a feeling of slight pressure... she took two samples. The cauterization was also painless, as was the application of the paste. The procedure took about 15 minutes including the setup. I think many women have a bad reaction to the epinephrine which causes racing heart and panic. Perhaps more women should request carbocaine.

Thank you very much for the encouraging words! Im 27 and going for my procedure in two weeks; Im pretty scared. I also suffer from Anxiety attacks and am scared of what the epinephrine will do to my system. But I am happy to see that there are positive experiences and results from this procedure being done!
Im also planning on getting the Vaccine after all of this to prevent further abnormalities from coming back.
Again, thanks for the positive words!

I had a leep today. In my experience the overall experience was more uncomfortable than the biopsy. For me the biopsy (2 snips) was a 4 on pain scale of 10, but it was only for 2 seconds. I had taken 600mg of Ibprofen ahead of time which probably took the edge off. For the LEEP, I also took 600mg of Ibprofen before and still I found the first two of 4 lidocaine shots as painful as the biopsy snips. I didn't get a racing heart from it, but my legs began trembling lightly for a few minutes, but was nothing troublesome. During and after the actual procedure I had about 5 minutes of a stinging/burning sensation which was about a 3 on the scale, but bothered me most because it lasted longer than a second or two. Afterward, I didn't feel horrible but definately not up for going back to work. The entire appointment took about 15 minutes.

Thanks for your post. I Have the test on Monday 7-21-14. The doctor and others said it is not bad its better then the colp but I knew they were lying. I had Lazer surgery 20 years ago in the hospital asleep. I knew I was going to be sorry If I had it in the office. I have been going crazy deciding to go threw with it or Tell the doctor I need to have it done in the hospital asleep. This is just the information I have been looking for. Thanks for being blunt. I just wanted the actual truth. Thank You. This helped.

Hello, Ladies! My LEEP experience was not bad at all. I had it done 3 days ago. I normally do not get on message boards, but felt like I needed to post my positive experience, even if it just helps one terrified girl to calm her nerves. Before I had my procedure I searched the internet and found a lot of scary experiences that women had with the LEEP procedure. I was literally TERRIFIED. I had 3 weeks to wait before I could have it done, and it was all I thought about. I even went to my regular Doctor and told her how much anxiety I was having over it and she prescribed me xanax. I cried about every day because I was so scared to have this done....ok, I told you all this so you would get the point on just *how* much of a BIG baby I am. But, this procedure didn't end up being as horrible as what I thought it was going to be!!!! My husband drove me there because I took a xanax an hour before my appointment. That xanax helped a lot. Looking back at how easy the procedure went, I really didn't need it, but at the time I was so terrified, it really did help me. So, if you are really scared, have them prescribe you a valium or xanax before the procedure....because they absolutely can! The procedure was a piece of cake...and what I mean by that is---of course it's not a walk in the park to have your lady parts worked on, but it was not nearly as bad as what my mind had imagined it was going to be. It is just "uncomfortable", kinda like a pap smear that takes longer. I did not feel the shot at all, and I was completely numb when he started to use the machine. I felt nothing. I am not kidding you...and I have a verrrrry low pain tolerance, so I was very surprised. But the bottom line is this: Do you have a good Gynocologist? It's all about the Dr....I feel bad for the ladies that had to feel ANYTHING while the procedure was going on. The Doctor should have made sure they were numb!!! If you read about the Leep procedure it is described as "painless", and painless is what it is supposed to be!! It was for me...and I like I said, I"m a big baby, so I was shocked. Good luck, Ladies. And make sure you are going to a Gynocologist that you trust and feel as though they are competent with doing this procedure, and you will be just fine!!!

I'm so glad that I'm not alone. I just had a LEEP done for high grade dysplasia and I really thought I was prepared. I read all about it beforehand and was under the impression that the extent of the pain was just a little pressure and discomfort. My doctor first did a colposcopy to see what areas she needed to remove. I had already had one previously so this was nothing new. Then she told me she would numb my cervix. I was totally unprepared for how painful the numbing shots were. I got five of them and they hurt every single time. I was shaking uncontrollably afterward and could not breathe normally. I really wish I had been more prepared for that because it was really intense and very emotional for me. My doctor was very surprised at this. The LEEP itself didn't hurt at all but I don't think I'll be the same after going through that. I actually found this forum after trying to figure out if it was unusual that I felt so much pain with those shots. Apparently we all experience them differently because some women don't feel them at all. Also, I found that a lot of women are put completely under for their LEEPS. I wish I had been given that option.

I had LEEP done today. I did not feel a thing other than minor discomfort and nerves. It is likely, like everything else, different for everybody. I will follow up once my local anescesisa wears off a little bit to see if it hurts in the aftermath. THe procedure itself was perfectly fine. I had expected much worse.
