Hi guest. Don't believe everything you read that others have written about different surgical procedures as every one reacts different from simple things from having blood taken to actual surgery under local anaesthetic some say it's the most painful thing ever some feel nothing. Everyone's pain receptions work different and we all have a different pain threshold, some woman say pap smears are painful others say they don't feel a thing, the main thing you need to do is just relax totally because if your tense then that's when you normally feel it :-)

i just had the LEEP done yesterday. i am a huge baby on anything medical. i had 3 biopsies done about 3 months ago and they were awful! i was so scared about the LEEP that i put if off for 3 months ( i know, its dumb to do that). anyways, i went yesterday, and it took the nurse longer to get everything ready then the procedure took. the first numbing needle did hurt a bit, but almost immedietly i was numb and didnt feel the other two. it does speed your heart rate up and make you a little shaky for a bit, but its normal and goes away within seconds. she put a pad on my thigh, then asked the nurse for a couple sizes of loops so she could fit it. they then turned the machine on and i layed there bracing for the worst lol. within 7 minutes, the nurse said you did wonderful. i was like thats it? i worked myself up to were i was sick for that? lol. and the people that have said on other forums how the whole room filled up with smoke and stank, nope. i didnt see any smoke, and just a light hint for a few seconds of the burning. the doctor asked me before i sat up if i was dizzy or anything and i said no not at all. you then get dressed and they schedule you for a follow up pap in 3 months to recheck. they mail your results to you. seriously, do not get yourself worked up over this. get it done to prevent anything worse. i am now almost 2 days later, and i have had ZERO pains and just a spotting on my pad. all i feel is extremely tired. hope this helps someone out instead of reading all the bad stuff.

Some of you may have had unusually difficult experiences, and I am genuinely sorry to hear that. However, any doctor OR patient who received this procedure will tell you, the large majority of the time, that it was not a big deal. Most women feel mild discomfort or often little to no discomfort or pain at all. I am very disappointed to read all of these posts from women going on about their experiences in such a way that does little more than scare other women, causing extremely unnecessary fear and anxiety. Please be sensitive to the way in which your words can affect another woman and maybe even cause her to avoid treatment altogether! Cervical cancer (and abnormal cells) is one of THE most treatable cancers in existence and we should be focusing on getting other women to have routine PAP smears & HPV screenings and being grateful that we have such excellent treatment options and cure/ success rates! Because in the end, your doctor isn't intent on torturing you but rather saving your life!

I just had my LEEP procedure yesterday 1-29-16. Boy am I glad I did not read these stories before my appointment. I think I must have had an awesome doctor because the only thing I felt were the numbing shots and a slight amount of heat. I was not put out and I do not think it would have been at all necessary. I will admit , I got a little light headed when getting the shots but I think that had a lot to do with anxiety. But overall, I think the colposcopy was more painful since there was no numbing involved. I have had much more pain in the dentist chair. Don't make yourself sick worrying, in my experience it really was more mental than physical.

I had a LEEP procedure done today after my colposcopy showed 2 lesions varying from CIN 1-3. I wanted to let everyone know ITS NOT THAT BAD!! I scoured the Internet and horror stories scared me sick before the procedure. The colposcopy was more uncomfortable (I had one biopsy that I didn't even feel and one that made me scream ouch out loud and shook me up a bit) but cramping after was most annoying. Leep procedure they use a bigger speculum so slightly more uncomfortable but tolerable. Vinegar solution slightly stings but not bad. Numbing was the most uncomfortable with slight cramping but lasted maybe a few seconds of pinchy before numb. Burning of tissue lasted 10-15 seconds. That was that. They stopped any bleeding which she said was minimal and I was out of the clinic in no time. I took 1 mg Xanax and 1000mg Tylenol before hand. I was fine. Please be positive and be happy treatments are available to stop things like this before they could be worse.

Also forgot to mention that I didn't really react to the epinephrine in the numbing of my cervix-my legs were a little shaky but not sure if it was from Epi or nerves :-) my heart never started racing.

Just had the leep. With at least six shots of lidocaine and some with epinephrine I am sad to say it didn't work. I felt everything. It hurt and I bawled. but tell you what, I survived and I'm hoping they got it all. Small price to pay for health. Though next time I'll request the laughing gas ;).

Went through the procedure today. Don't be scared. I read all these stories and was VERY scared. And I have been through a real surgery before. I was almost crying when saw the equipment in the room and was told they were going to use electricity. Anyway colposcopy is more painful than LEEP. Felt a shot but it was more uncomfortable than painful. Didn't feel the procedure itself at all. And it took them 3 minutes maybe.

I absolutely love this post! I go for my Leep Friday 3/14/16 and of course nervous as hell!! I also have major anxiety that drives me crazy. Reading this just totally put me at ease and gave me the strength I need to get thru this. Thank you to the brave woman who shared her experience.

I just had this procedure done today and had the exact same feelings. Almost like I was going to pass out. I didn't feel the needles to numb the area and didn't feel anything else. Dr said that was all normal. It was definitely easier to deal with than the biopsy which was incredibly uncomfortable.

I love how people say people shouldn't give their bad experiences because it scares people. Well, guess what! Scared or not, I like to be fully informed! I think it is rude to suggest that only people who have good experiences should post their experience. I am here trying to decide whether to do the doctor's office versus the hospital. The bad experiences won't keep people from treatment, they help people make an informed decision of what way is best for them! Please, keep all stories coming! One is not more important or valuable than another.

Here is my thinking- is it possible that some are more on the outside and some are deeper in, which could matter? My doctor told me he has to make a LARGE (he stressed large) incision across the cervix, then use the machine deep inside. That sounds very painful to me. The people who were done in 3 minutes, well, maybe that wasn't necessary. The biopsy and cervical canal scraping was excruciating for me! And he said I did well (not sure who was in that room, cause if that was well I'm not sure what poor was). He has given me the option of doing local or general anesthesia. I was leaning toward the office visit, but thankfully, many others have said to take the hospital, if given the choice. I am honestly not sure I can handle more pain than the first one I went through without having to then reschedule. I am sure the hospital will have no pain during the procedure, but I hate putting my brain to sleep, if I don't have to.

Any insight for someone who had to have the (large) incision across the opening of the cervix to burn the canal would be appreciated. Boy, I am ready for this to be done. I will bet that if men had to undergo these procedures, state of the art, painless procedures would have been perfected long ago. It all feels so ridiculous.

My doctor said they don't use epinephrine with the lidocaine. I wonder why everyone keeps saying they use it?!
