Hi I'm a 15 year old and about to go grade 11. I just want to share and gather information's and advice from experts here. I hope you can help me :( . I had my xray examination for it is a requirement for grade 11 and the impression is suspicious left upper lobe opacity. What should I do and should I be scared? And is there any remedy to reduce the opacity?

Hi Christian,

You need to be concerned, not scared.

At this point it is only a "suspicious opacity."  That doesn't tell us what it is or what is causing it.  You need additional testing to determine what it is.  This could include additional x-rays (apicolordotic view), a sputum analysis, or even a biopsy.

You NEED to get this evaluated.  It could be potentially very serious such as tuberculosis.  At this point, again, we don't know what it is.

Good luck.

Thank you for that, I'll have my apico lordotic view xray tomorrow. But is it possible that the first result is like not that accurate? I'm so confused because I am healthy, I'm a varsity player and I don't feel anything wrong with my respiration and other things related to that. We don't have any kind of history also me, I don't have history about lungs and other serious health problems

Yes, it is possible the first result is not accurate. That's why it is "suspicious". Lots of things, called artifacts, can show up on an x-ray. Artifacts are like spots or ghosts on the x-ray, they shouldn't be there. They can come from many different sources.

The apicolordotic view focuses more on the tops of the lungs. It should be able to resolve the issue if the artifacts are gone. If not, you'll need more tests.

Some respiratory problems start out very slow. You could have some fluid from an infection or even a injury - getting hit in the chest.

The real concern is tuberculosis - PTB. That can scar your lungs and the scars are permanent. It needs to get treated early.

Let us know how you do. Good luck.
