EI've been on 100mgs of methadone for a year now. I always had a petite frame weighed no less than 105 lbs. I'm 5'2. I have large breasts as well. Since taking the methadone I started gaining weight rapidly. I started noticing a few lbs in the beginning. Then my pants wouldn't fit. My shirts were getting tight. I gained 50lbs . I do have a sweet tooth, but I can control it. My weight is in my calves, thighs, bum. Belly even my breasts got bigger. I go to the gym 4 days a week. I eat ok. I know this drug causes severe weight gain. I'm goin to start tapering off. I feel disgusted with myself. I worry and obsese about my weight every day. This has caused a new problem for

This actually doesn't prove true. I am a 26 year old male who has abused opiates since I was 16 on a daily basis. In 2009 I started methadone through pain management after quitting cold turkey from the clinic two years prior to pm. My first time around at the clinic no weight gain at all. I stayed at 150lbs the same I had been since I was 16. When I started in '09, within 2 months I had gained 50 lbs putting me at 200lbs, gone from a 30 inch waste to a 36, and was eating a half gallon of Ice cream almost daily.

On 3/5/12 I had a car accident which broke both legs (open fractures on both femurs and much more) and I started physical therapy in which I worked out 2 hours a day 3 times a week. I lost no weight. About two weeks ago I had my doc swap me to OxyContin and I have already lost 15 lbs and I'm still in a wheelchair and can't walk. If I can lose that much weight that fast exercising only the upper half of my body I feel it's safe to say methadone is the culprit. My doctor agrees. It doesnt mean you are supposed to be that big but your habit made u smaller. My habit kept me the same weight until I introduced methadone. To some it is a life saver and to others it's a demon. It had such a bad effect on my body I had to go to testosterone replacement therapy at age 24 because I would never get erections and couldn't even get one with female stimulation. After I thought about all the effects I was suffering I said to hell with it and swapped. Now I get frequent erections daily as normal for a 26 year old male and the testosterone levels are rising on their own which has as much to do with weight loss or gain as metabolism in men. Low T causes fat gains, muscle loss, depression, no labido, low self esteem and many other side effects. So men think hard before starting methadone whether it's treatment, pain managent, or even abuse. If giving up your entire sex life sounds ok go for it. I have numerous friends who went through methadone treatment and 100% described the same side effects sexually that I did, however, not all gained as much weight as I. The average was around 25-30 lbs.

I was on oxycontin for 6 years. I went into detox on March of 2010. I was 321 lbs. I was on Subtex (Suboxone) while i was there and i weighted 296 when i came out. I came out feeling great. Especially after not needing 12 80mg OC daily. I ended up relapsing (whats addiction without at least one) And the only answer i had to stay off and away from the OC and to not keep relapsing, was to go and get on Methadone. May of 2010 i started MM. I was on a max of 70 mg. Ive ben reducing 3-4 mgs a month, very slow and easy, but ive noticed since i started reducing in December of 2011, ive lost another 80 lbs. So my advice to you if you are gaingin to much weight. Is to start reducing your dose. People tell me all the time "You're melting away" and it sounds nice to hear aftr being so large for so long. Just want to add when is starteed poppin pills i was 220 lbs. So im basically back down to my orginal weight i was in high school :). Lower your dose, It might help.

I have an inoperable brain condition. In January I finally found a good pain management doctor who has developed a holistic plan for me and I am doing better than I have in years. (pain wise that is) I started taking methadone in January of this year and I now weigh 255 pounds. I don't know what to do. I don't want to be in pain again, but I can't walk, or climb stairs. I develop horrible rashes where my fat hangs over my stomach. Now I am having trouble with incontinence. Does the weight go down when you get off the med?

I am a mother of 2, 26 years old, and been at the methadone clinic for well over 3 years. I started pregnant with my son and also gained quite a bit of weight. after being there for a year and a half I was heavier than I was at 9 months pregnant... and the weight was weird and scattered. my face was very thin. boobs were small but my stomach and legs were HUGE! My boyfriend also gained about 50 lbs. we were depressed too. here's some reasons I think we WERE heavy and were able to drop the weight effortlessly..when we started at the clinic we were strung out on Oxys and methadone pills illegally. we were broke, irresponcible parents, and "homeless"... even a year later we were still not on tract but like most junkies we felt that " we did the right thing now why.isn't everything just falling into place?" life is hard and getting our life on track was really hard. when we finally were so close to giving up hope on ever being normal people and having our own place, good job, etc...we finally got our home. with in six months of getting settled into our very own place and slowly getting our ducks in a row we began to drop the weight. and fast. we all know methadonew side effects... and its funny that being depressed has the SAME side effects... so when your miserable and on liquid.. life can really suck. everyone's diff but hopefully what I am saying can help a few people. we are still struggling finacialy... still on methadone (phase 6 so we only go nce a week)... but just living a normal life I think was helping us not be so down in the dumps.. now we are too stressed to be depressed! haha. but here and there I.can see us gain some weight but we try to stay busy for two reasons..so we won't over eat and so we can possibly metabolize better. overworking at the gym may not.be everyone's answer. but try other things like eating very small snacks numerous times a day to force your metabolism to work. or pick a hobby.... something that can make you feel good. walking.... wake up early (which is also.hard on liquid) and walk for maybe 30 mins. fresh air is good for you. waking up and being active can help with metabolism. and can help give you energy to do other things besides eat and feel sorry for yourself. no one wants to admit that YOU ARE RESPONCIBLE FOR YOUR CHOICES and when you spend years getting high and destroy your life its going to take ALOT to get your life back. your not going to get everything given to you on a silver platter. so you went to the clinic... that's it? no! it takes alot of hard work and physical, mental, and emotional dedication to become a better person.. its easy to look at the downsides and if you look at pros and cons.. maybe methadone iisnt right for you. I hope I'm off of it soon but I am glad I started at the clinic. the other clients there that say they don't know why they gained wieght...of that they have so many problems.. going everyday to dose is "too hard" and these are the same people that are more worried about gossip, than their kids, or the ones that make exsuses instead of goals..or even people that still get high and fail the drugs tests, as if that is the clinics fault!. (that doesnt apply to everyone of course )so the way I see it is I think a percentage of people moping around BC of wieght gain.. are really too lasy to do anything about it. and one more thing. its up to you do to research before taking something... I mean on the street I never took a pill that I didn't know about, same applys to any doctor... do your own research, that's a given. stop expecting everyone to do everything for you. grow up, get over yourself, and do what you need to do to be happy.. stop blaming your issues on everyone/everything else!

i have been on methadone for 2 years now & have gained at least 50 lbs. i have always had a butt & hips but never a tummy! even my arms are a little bigger. this is the biggest i've ever been & i'm struggling with my body confidence. i got boobs out of it, but if i only have boobs being chunky then i would rather go back to smaller ones. i am now on 30 mgs and switching to subs soon. i really hope that getting off this c**p will once & for all help me lose the weight i gained!
