Multiple endocrine neoplasia type 1 (MEN1) is an inherited disorder affecting the endocrine system It is also known as Wermer's syndrome. It is quite rare, and your sister is belongs to about 3 to 20 persons out of 100,000 that are effected. Endocrine glands are responsible for releasing hormones into the bloodstream, and controling function of all of the other organs. This process is strictlly controlled by hypophisa. However, in MEN1 sometimes multiple endocrine glands, such as the parathyroid, the pancreas, and the pituitary become overactive at the same time.
