my child, 14 months old, has a rash on his face. the characteristics of it is weird. at first, it was just a red spot then after about 30-40 min, it had spread up to his eye and down to his mouth. there was an area in the rash that was slightly white and elevated.. like a welt. after about 15 min it started to go away. then shortly after it was gone, another one developed under his right eye and above his left eye. each looking like welts. i then noticed a small spot on his butt, his foot and his leg. and theyre going away. more might reappear. what could this be?? pls help.

Hi Gerenelda: Has he been anywhere near anyone with Chicken Pox? This sounds like that! Does he have a fever when the rash is raised? ALSO is he teething right now? This can also produce rashes and feveres!

well, he has a slight fever.. and hes had a cold the last couple days.. i took him to urgent care and they said the rash was part of the cold. i thought chicken pox was supposed to be red spots.. what daniel has is like large red patches of skin.. and the welts are pretty big too and whitish. im scared that it might be a reaction to my cats. but hes been around them since he was born. surely i would have seen something by now if he were allergic to them... rite?

NOW! On the other hand, teething rash is not supposed to be like welts, it's almost like a sunburn prickle rash!

IF it is Chicken Pox there isn't anything the doctors can really do anyway! What can REALLY help you to help him is the following.

1. Calamine Lotions - using a cottonwool ball, you dab this wonderous pink lotion on each of his welts!
2. You can give him baby motrin for the temperature and the pain
3. Give him a bath in baking soda and a ball of cooked oatmeal - wrapped in a piece of gauze! Aveeno make a great oatmeal bath!
4. If the welt starts looking infected use polysporin on it!

The best thing is to keep the area dry as possible! Don't wash him with very warm water, it should be luke warm! IF you use scented laundry detergents, then start using non scented EVERYTHING! The less scent on EVERYTHING the better! If you can let him go naked - depending on where the rash is! Keep it light and airy!
