Wow - I used to have panic attacks when I was younger.  The first thing to know is that even though you FEEL like you're going to die, you aren't.

As for getting better, one thing I really believe in (which doctors almost never deal with) is simple exercise and nutrition.  YOGA has been the answer for me, but also stopping eating alcohol, caffeine and sugar - they are serious drugs that have a HUGE effect on mood.  Of course, smoking is out of the question.

I don't know what your exercise and eating habits are like, but it's something you can begin to do immediately.  One thing about yoga, by the way: for me, it took BIKRAM yoga to really change my whole life, because it is a rigorous, demanding yoga.  Panic attacks have a lot to do with breathing, and yoga is all about opening up the breath.  For me, very gentle yoga is great, but didn't have the dramatic effects on my mood that Bikram yoga had.  For you, it might be walking or running or swimming or dancing - maybe you already do this.  But I would encourage you to really try looking to nutrition and exercise.  That's not to say you can't ALSO try prescription drugs and talk therapy.

Have you tried yoga or another regular exercise routine?  Do you avoid alcohol, sugar and caffeine?  If not, please do try it for at least a month, and then notice if the attacks are less.
