For the past 2 months, my heart has been acting weird. I'll get a fast heart-beat sometimes, and then other times it will beat normal, but it feels like it is straining to beat, with every beat it makes.. like it is tired or something. My mom is a nurse and says its all in my head but i dont think she is listening too well..
it usually happens when i start thinking about it. and it makes me think that i have a heart problem or im dying. Sometimes ill have them, and my palms get really sweaty and i start freaking out. And i have shortness of breath.. and other times it feels like there's pressure on my chest.

I am 17, male, 6' 1", 165 fit with a low body fat. Ive smoked about 3-5 cigarettes for the past year, and i got stabbed in the eye in january and had to take Loritab for that.
It seemed like i started feeling like this after i stopped taking loritab.
i popped cold pills occasionally about a year ago but the only thing i do now is smoke.

im going to the doctor next week to see what this is.
does this sound like any kind of disorder or syndrom or anything?
any help would be much appreciated.

I have been having similar problems with my heart too. Sometimes it will go fast and sometimes it beats normally. I also sometimes feel like I can't breathe properly kind of like my throat is closing in as well which makes me cough. It's probably just from anxiety though because every time I think its beating faster I get scared which just makes it beat faser anyway. In your case its most likely just the same thing but if you are really concerned about it you should see someone about it.

Clinty,
There may be some anxiety related symptoms associated with this condition, but you should really consult a doc and explain your situation to rule out any physiological problems. And a person who listens to you is probably the most important part of any treatment - especially so in case of anxiety - as this condition is so common (3rd largest in the US) that it tends to be trivialized. Just try and recollect if the conditions happens in any particular place, situation or a person, and mention that to the doc. Also ask if something can be done without taking drugs.

Good luck and let us know. If it is anxiety related there are good, working solutions, without relying on drugs.

Take care
