Just passed the 1 week post-hemorrhoidectomy mark and I'm still feeling great! Every day things seem to be improving. I'm able to sit and stand quite well, but not for long periods at a time.

I've had no pain the entire time. At most it has felt like a MINOR flare up. I'm still elated that I don't have to fix the prolapse every time I have a bowel movement. It's been a life changing event, and I'm not even fully recovered yet.

I still have a lot of discharge and a little blood, but it's getting better and better. I'm hoping within another week that I'll see less and less of that, but I'm certainly not complaining overall!

I am suffering with internal and external hemorrhoids. Terrified to have surgery, was going to have an IRC but I could not tolerate the pain of the plastic thing the dr inserted to do procedure. That night I was in pure agony from the insertion hours before. When I go poo it feels like razor blades coming out. Stool is not hard, and if I have diarrhea its really worse. At my wits end. So scared of having hemorrhoidectomy, I am considering an elective colostomy. Really a sad agonizing position to be in. I live in Atlanta, Tx and surgeons closest are Texarkana, Tx but thats another issue of who to choose.

Do the surgery. You are worse off than I was, and I was pretty miserable. I'm now 2 weeks post-op and I'm kicking myself I didn't do it sooner. I've had no pain at all and felt better pretty much immediately after I woke up from surgery. The fear of the pain made me put it off for 15 years. All I can think about is the time I wasted with a sore bottom!

Just about at the 2 week post-op mark and things have been healing up nicely. I still have to keep gauze down there to soak up the mucous discharge (and tiny bit of blood), but that has been gradually decreasing as I heal. I had some blood all of a sudden in my bowel movements a couple days ago, but nothing like that today.

I don't regret this surgery for a second, other than I put it off for 15 years and wasted so much time with a sore bottom!

I'm happy to answer any questions at all, so please feel free to ask :)

I wrote a lengthy note on this awhile ago. I echo Scott's words completely. Only regret is putting it off for as long as I did. I'm almost 2 years post op and everything is GREAT! I feel like I got a big chunk of my life back not having to constantly worry about them and the accompanying pain. Not only are there no H's or pain, but my BMs are now what they're supposed to be. Your body is screwed up because the H's are sending the wrong signals. That compounds the issues with the loose stool. I had intense pain for 1 week. There are all sorts of coping mechanisms on these boards that you can use. After that it was all normal recovery. I don't know your complete situation, Doctors, where you live, etc. But absent extenuating circumstances, I say GET THE SURGERY!

3 weeks post-op today and I think it will be the last day I need to use any sort of gauze, as the mucous discharge is pretty much gone. As with the previous 2 weeks, there has been no pain at all. The worst this week has been the itching as things heal. I'm able to sit/stand/walk/run without any difficulty and I'm continually amazed after bowel movements when I don't have to "gather myself up".

I think I was incorrect about not having any external hemorrhoids removed, as I've got open incisions on the outside, so it appears I had both internal and external removed. Regardless, I've experienced absolutely no pain as a result of the surgery.

I hope this puts some minds at ease and inspires you to deal with the issue. I'm so glad I had this done and would do it again in a second.

Please don't follow the advice to "pop a Xanax" whenever you need to. Even after a couple of weeks of taking Xanax some folks become dependent and can spend months or longer recovering from withdrawal. Occasional use is fine; daily use more than a week is not.

Wow Brian, our stories are very similar...except im a bit older and my daughter is 7.

Everyone here on this thread is as friggin hero... I'm not joking. In the most literal sense.

How is everything now? Any negatives??

I have pretty big stage 3 internals... almost 20 years now...im 43. Slightly constipated pusher Oreo addict in my mid 20's.

I would like to hear from someone that is a year or more post op with full hemerroidectomy on stage 3 or 4 internals.

Thanks you everyone!!!

I've written a few lengthy posts before. Mine were external. 2 removed one ligated. 2+ years post surgery and zero pain or discomfort. I no longer have to live my life revolving around BMs and associated pain.

I'm now over 2 months post op on multiple stage 3 and 4 and am at 100%. I've been back in the gym for some time now and I feel like I'm 20 years old again.

Don't put it off. I'm kicking myself pretty seriously for having tolerated it for so long. It was totally a non-event.

I would tell anyone who is at the point that it is a major issue most days, and it hasn't been resolved by healthier eating, and drinking water to do this surgery.

I had a number of internal/external ones that were measured at 2. Not much compared to most people here, but the internal ones bleed after every BM, and two or three times a month, it was like blood letting of the medieval times. For the last 6-7 years, having toilet paper or gauze between the checks have been a necessity for most of the day after a BM.

It has been one month now, and out of the 30+ years of having hemorrhoids, I can't believe how stupid it was not to have it done earlier. For me it has been only a moderate amount of pain for the first two weeks, and now only a slight amount. I only have a slight yellow discharge after a BM now, and occasionally during the day. A humongous improvement already, and if things keep going like they have been, maybe no more toilet paper/gauze after a BM in the next week or so.

I am so happy. Pain, suffering, I would do it again.
