After undergoing a Bankart repair or capsular shift surgery, your shoulder is in a delicate state of healing. The incident you described, where you jumped off your couch and felt a pop in your shoulder, could potentially be a cause for concern. Here are some steps you should consider:

  1. Contact Your Surgeon or Healthcare Provider Immediately: It's essential to inform them about the incident and the symptoms you experienced (the flexing and popping sound). They can advise you on whether you need to be seen for an evaluation.

  2. Rest and Immobilization: Until you get professional advice, it's wise to limit the use of your operated shoulder. Continue using your sling as instructed to avoid any further stress on the area.

  3. Monitor Your Symptoms: Pay attention to any changes in pain, range of motion, swelling, or any other unusual sensations in your shoulder. If you notice increased pain, swelling, or any new symptoms, it's important to inform your healthcare provider.

  4. Possible Imaging Tests: Your doctor may suggest imaging tests like an X-ray or MRI to assess the integrity of the repair and to see if there's been any damage due to the incident.

  5. Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation: Follow your prescribed rehabilitation protocol strictly. If you have upcoming physical therapy sessions, inform your therapist about this incident as well. They might need to adjust your therapy program based on this.

  6. Pain Management: If you're experiencing increased pain, follow your doctor's advice on pain management, which might include medications or ice therapy.

  7. Avoid Similar Incidents: In the future, be extra cautious to avoid sudden movements or actions that could put stress on your healing shoulder.

It’s important to understand that the healing process after such a surgery is critical and any unusual occurrences like the one you experienced should be taken seriously to ensure proper healing and to avoid complications. Your healthcare provider is the best source of advice in this situation.

Good luck.
