Had this surgery 10yrs ago on c3-4-5, 2 wks ago I had c6-7 fused, the trick is to do exactly what the Dr. tells you, no lifting, pulling-bending-sweeping- vac, etc Allow the muscles to relax, and the fusion to stablize. Remember you've and surgery on Bone, and bone is painful and the healing process takes time. My first surgery I took right off 2 wks after surgery, and it never seemed to be completely right during healing, this time I am taking my time, and doing exactly limited activities. Everyone heals on a different time frame and your body will let you know when you can push alittle more, Best of luck and God speed on a good healing...

I had C5-C6 surgery six(6) years ago and it was a success at the time. Six years later, I now have pain. numbness, jerky reflexes, tingling, and weakness in the right arm and hand. The tingling and jerkiness is now showing up on the left side which was the original side that I had the surgery for. I had a MRI done which the docs here say that it doesn't show the kind of symptoms that I am exhibiting. I read the radiologist report and there was a lot of "minor to moderate" usage in the report. I guess when surgeons read that they are apprehensive about doing surgery and IF they do they say that there is no "guarantee" that it will be "successful". All I know is that I can't handle the symptoms much more and I'm willing to take my chances. By the way I am 62 years old and am experiencing natural bone degeneration which probably has a lot to do with my situation.
With that said I would recommend this kind of surgery to anyone who is experiencing "the" symptoms. Granted it's scary and for me there was a 3 month rehabilitation but I came out of all this to say that it was "successful".
Good luck to anyone who is contemplating this procedure and keep in mind that everyone is different post-op.
