Had this surgery 10yrs ago on c3-4-5, 2 wks ago I had c6-7 fused, the trick is to do exactly what the Dr. tells you, no lifting, pulling-bending-sweeping- vac, etc Allow the muscles to relax, and the fusion to stablize. Remember you've and surgery on Bone, and bone is painful and the healing process takes time.  My first surgery I took right off 2 wks after surgery, and it never seemed to be completely right during healing, this time I am taking my time, and doing exactly limited activities. Everyone heals on a different time frame and your body will let you know when you can push alittle more, Best of luck and God speed on a good healing...

6 weeks ago i had fusion of the C5, 6 and 7. My surgeon has me wearing my collar 24/7 for 3 months and no PT for 3 months. All he wants me to do is walk. The issues i had with my arms are pretty much back to normal. The throat issue is also slowly improving. My issue is leg weakness. I cannot walk without a cane or walker and that has not improved. My doctor said it could take a year..or it may never get better. Its terrible. I walk across the house and feel like im going to fall. (And Im exhausted) I also have the same issues as everyone else, cant sleep, sore shoulders, and cant move my head. I hadnt heard anyone talking about the lower body issues and was just curious if anyone else had that.

I had 3-4 , 5-6 fused, I work construction and have to lift heavy stuff. I went back to "full" duty 6 weeks post-op. Now it has been 5 years and it feels fine. I do get some cracking now and then, but overall it fixed the problem I was having with my right arm.I only wore my neck brace for 7 days. I think this the reason I recovered so quickly. Ask your doctor if you can not wear it. My doctor said it was up to me so I didn't. Hated the thing!!!

I had several facet injections, but in the lumbar region. Some immediate relief, but never lasted more than a couple of months. For the expense, for me they just did not work. That is not to say, it won't for you. I ended up having 2 lumbar surgeries and neck surgery. I hope you have better results! Best of luck.

had a neck fusion 10 yrs ago, 3-5, 6 wks ago had 5-7 done, 3 wks after had a car accident, the comp Dr. sent me for muscle therapy, and the results of 10 yrs worth of muscle spasms is also doing a hell of a lot better, the therapist uses lazer treatments on my muscles along with proper stretching. and the numbness that I have exprienced since prior to my first surgery is due to lack of circulation in the muscles from the fusion.....try muscle and lazer treatments. I did 2.5 yrs of chiropractics and never felt this good in only 3 treatments, why did it take so LONG for a Dr. to put me in the right direction??? Don't know but I am glad for the treatments.....Best of Luck....

I had C5-C6 surgery six(6) years ago and it was a success at the time.  Six years later, I now have pain. numbness, jerky reflexes, tingling, and weakness in the right arm and hand.  The tingling and jerkiness is now showing up on the left side which was the original side that I had the surgery for. I had a MRI done which the docs here say that it doesn't show the kind of symptoms that I am exhibiting. I read the radiologist report and there was a lot of "minor to moderate" usage in the report. I guess when surgeons read that they are apprehensive about doing surgery and IF they do they say that there is no "guarantee" that it will be "successful". All I know is that I can't handle the symptoms much more and I'm willing to take my chances. By the way I am 62 years old and am experiencing natural bone degeneration which probably has a lot to do with my situation.
With that said I would recommend this kind of surgery to anyone who is experiencing "the" symptoms. Granted it's scary and for me there was a 3 month rehabilitation but I came out of all this to say that it was "successful".
Good luck to anyone who is contemplating this procedure and keep in mind that everyone is different post-op.

I am four days post op today. Took the bandage off of my throat yesterday. Pain and tingling and numbness are all completely gone!!!! Throat hurts when I swallow, and feels like there's a pill stuck in it. How long did your throat hurt and how bad is the scar? Right now I look like I've had my throat slit (Guess I have) and all I need is a bolt on either side like the bride of Frankenstein. Will this get better soon or should I just get used to it?

please Help! My mom has had terrible right arm pain for the last 2 months which was caused by a ruptured disc. After trying PT with no luck, she had a fusion of C5-6. It had been only 2 days since surgery so maybe we are jumping the gun, but no relief. When she was first injured she had very intense sharp arm pains and over the course of the 2 months her arm went numb and prickly. Like I said is has only been 2 days but the arm pain is back and she seems to think it has gotten worse since leaving the hospital. It is not as intense as when she was first injured but not numb anymore. Has this happened to anyone else? I know most people were saying that when they woke up immediate relief followed by other complications. not sure where to go from here.

I had surgery about 2 1/2 years ago. Two levels fused, 5-6, 6-7. I feel great. Rain and cold weather remind me I had the surgery, but most of the time I feel wonderful. I play tennis and water ski and do almost anything I want, but am more cautious about what I do. I do remember feeling very fatigured for about the first year. You will get better. Remember not to do a lot of overhead weights. My doc said planks or bridges was one of the best exercises to strengthen your back and neck muscles. I did not have an option to have neck surgery because I lost the use of my left arm, but consider it a sucessful surgery and glad I had it done.

I've been informed I need neck fusion surgery. 567 are my problems. I'm getting married in December. I'm selling my house and my future Step Daughter is getting married in December too. I have a lot on my plate! I have the aches, tingling, etc. Left arm. I want the surgery to relieve this constant discomfort. Question is: we are approaching August. Those that have gone through this, are you healed enough in two months ?

I had mine done June 22 and am not cleared to lift more than 5 lbs. or drive a car yet, but dr. says I probably can after next visit on Sept. 20th...Moving around ok as long as the meds are in me, but very fatigued which has given all new meaning to a lazy summer. As long as u have a good support group and a good dr, I wouldn't wait.
