I have this same problem...been over a week now. ENT suggested reflux causing it, but I don't have reflux that bad and when I did it never brought on an attack like this. Mine feels like a charlie horse in the muscle around my adam's apple mostly on the right side, and under my tongue. Difficult/painful to swallow, dry mouth, at times painful all the way  to my right  ear, but pretty sure it isn't viral or bacterial in nature considering no fever, sore throat etc.. only slight hoarseness at times. I have also had twitching in my left upper eyelid. Thinking it may be nerve related. I have for years gotten a cramp under my tongue on the left that if I tip my head back and swallow would "pop" over a vessel or muscle and then be fine. Not sure what it is have been looking at glossopharyngeal neuralgia. Not sure if it is because I have palpated it, but feels sort of like my hyoid area/bone is sore to the touch like a bruise would feel.

I've had the exact same symptoms for about a week now, but mine is on the upper left of my Adams Apple. I turned my head left and swallowed and felt nothing, turned right and it was more pronounced. It's not actually painful, just annoying and definitely not typical. Hopefully mine turns out as easy-to-explain and deal with as yours has.

I've been having this exact same problem. right side, top of adam's apple. it wouldn't go away, so i finally got my doc to give me an MRI. They didn't see anything cancer-related, and they think it is a small muscle tear. chinstrap muscle, i think. they said to take ibuprofen for a few weeks, and see if it goes away. I seem to re-injure it every time i sneeze, so I try not to sneeze, now.

Same feeling for the last week or so. I have been feelimg very anxious lately and have had a variety of aches and pains throughout my body. I believe they are stress related as when i talk about certain topics (mostly work) a start to feel all of the symptoms. Seems that every time i figure some pain to be anxiety related the pain moves and disguises itself as something else.

Also hurts when i sneeze also...lke astrained muscle.

Thanks for all the repkies...makes me feel better. Goo.g to Dr in a couple of weeks

Hey thats how mine started , with a sneeze , but 2 weeks later it went away on its own , and now a few months later it has returned after I yawned a few times , It definately has to be muscle related if you analyse it. if anyone has found a solid cure then please share ?

After reading more and thinking to the things that had happened to me during the days that my symptoms started i remembered tryong to hold in an unusually violent sneeze. Was looking for tissue and acchhhump....then ouch...wtf?

Thought nothing of it till it started to hurt and i paid attention to the pain.

Went away on its pwn after a few weeks...still lingers a little...but less and less as time goes on.

I am right here with you guys. I am a singer and Im thinking that it is a strain from that because I was getting better and then I sang for  bit and its back. I think mine started with a violent sneeze as well. Now when I sneeze or swallow or even yawn the pain is terrible. Thanks for the posts and I wish us all a recovery that is quick.

yes Me too, it first started with a kick to throat, I recovered in few days and a week later "Yesterday" I sneezed? and that caused same symptoms, on the left side of my throat and and around my Adams apple , and specially painful when I swallow, it got a little better this morning then I sneezed again.

Funny, I've been having this since the Fall began. The area around my throat behind the Adam's Apple is perpetually tender, and aches at the end of every yawn. Just last night, I began experiencing pain swallowing on the right side of my throat. ENT says it's GERD, but I already take meds to prevent acid reflux. I think it could be allergies combined with a strained throat muscle. ANyway, you're not alone!

I just started having this same exact thing that you are talking about. Turn my head right or str8 no pain, but when i turn my head left and swallow i can feel the pain on the right side. Did you ever find out what it really was and/or how long did it take to subside, mine has be going on for about 5 days now..

Had a real bad choking incident where a friend had to give me the Himleich manouver. I coughed extremely hard numerous times also and the next day I started having the soreness on the left side of my throat when swallowing.
I had the same symptoms over the years which are related to neck injuries. Once or twice a year.
My chiropractor who has been more than helpful has worked it out every time. He explained the muscle structure that surrounds the parts of the neck which gets inflammed causes the soreness to swallow, tightness in turning etc...
I hope this will help with some of the wonderings.

I've been having the same problem for about 3 weeks - painful swallowing - on the right side of my adam's apple.

I had a cold just before that. I didn't pay attention to when exactly this started but I think it was just after the cold. I took dayquil for a few days - did not help.

I went to see my doctor yesterday and she ruled out a lot of the options due to the fact that I don't have fever or any signs of cold.

She told me to take antibiotics for strep throat and come back if nothing changes in a few days. Then she will refer me to a specialist who will look inside my throat with a camera and see if there is anything wrong.

I started the antibiotics Friday morning (yesterday). If I don't notice even a little difference by tomorrow evening, I am going back to the hospital on Monday. I am totally freaked out - I can't think about anything else...

I can't believe this can be cancer - I don't smoke, drink occasionally, I am 28 (throat cancer seems to mostly affect folks 66+)... and still have all of the symptoms...
