I have had this issue for a few months and my older sister for over 2 years! She was worried it was cancer or something but I am 99% sure it's all muscular and skeletal. I have had issues with my neck and pain and headaches in the past and I'm an RMT. When I massage the area it lessens the pain and it is exactly how you all have described it.... pain in the right side just above adam's apple area on swallowing, etc. I'm going to try physio, massage, acupuncture, chiro, see what I can do to get rid of this annoying condition.

I have had this problem three times in my life, spaced out by many years. For me, it was acute onset, from nothing in particular that I c an tell, which immediately resulted in excruciating pain that radiated from the lymph node area on the right side of my neck up through my teeth and jaw and ending in my ear. The pain was only excruciating when swallowing. If I could stop myself from swallowing for a minute, it almost felt normal again. In my case the pain lasted from a few minutes to a few hours, and stopped as suddenly as it began with what I can only describe as a feeling of something “untwisting” or popping back into place in my neck. Once this happened, I could immediately swallow fine and all pain subsided in a matter of minutes. The first time it did it on its own, the second after I put an ice pack on it, and the third after alternating ice and heat pad. I was terrified the entire time, not knowing what was happening and imagining a future with that amount of constant pain put me in a panic. After some thought, I am wondering if what I am describing can possibly be a pinched nerve. I have no idea what else it could be. Some other people sound like they are having a chronic pain, so it may not describe that situation.

I have experienced minor pain for almost two weeks on the right side of my throat like I had a lump in it and a burning sensation.
Yesterday, it hurt bad when I swallowed.
Today I went to ENT specialist and he put a scope in my nose so he could see my throat.
He stated I had acid from stomach going back into esophagus which prevented saliva for going down esophagus and instead was building up; causing the pain.
So if you have been experiencing heart burn; you may have the same condition.
I have to take acid reflux prescription daily for two months and go back in for ENT to look down my throat in two months.

Mine started about a week ago when i sneezed. It hurt a little then the next two days a pain all the way up my neck to my ear and felt like a pencil being shoved in my ear. The ear pain is gone now but when i swallow i fell a little sore only on the right side. Of course im thinking the worse.when i eat its ok but its after that just swallowing. Now im constantly swallowing to see if the pain is there. Wondering if it could make it worse.

I've had the same/similar thing for several months. Extremely painful left side of throat when swallowing. It seems to me it's near the tonsil. Feeling of a large ball in the area at the same time. Only happens at night. I've seen a doctor who seems a little dismissive of it until I pushed for answers. She referred me to ENT but that was only on Monday. Monday night I didn't haven't it and haven't since until one episode last night. This probably has nothing to do with it but Monday night I drank coconut water before bed and have done so on the nights since then. Today I googled and it would seem the problem is called Crycopharengeal spasm. I will check this with my doctor. Thrilled to find a name for it - had been scared it was cancer. Maybe related or not but I also suffer from throat spasms when yawning hugely and move my head at the same time. When I yawn now I make sure I don't move my head. Hope this information helps someone.

This is exactly what I have been experiencing for 2 weeks, literally exactly. Were you ever able to determine what it was?
