This really is UNBELIEVABLE.  Everyone here is describing the same thing I am currently experiencing.. I am an avid runner. Have had this weird swallowing (not pain) but discomfort for 2 weeks. Definitley NOT on the inside lining of the throat but feels like it's on the outside of the throat (below the skin).  No lumps can be felt. When swallowing the pressure is on the right side.  Seems to get more pronounced by end of the day.  During a run it feels fine. When you can really feel discomfort and pinpoint location of the pressure  is when you act like you are holding in a sneeze. Once again the pressure / discomfort is on the RIGHT side of the adams apple. The front of the adams apple is a bit tender when touched (like a muscle pain) ALSO when you touch the muscle or tendon that runs down the right side of the throat below the adams apple it is tender. WHAT is this???

I'm replying to my post....I'm cured. Here is what I did. after suffering for 2 1/2 weeks with discomfort and fear... I took (2) 500 mg Tylenol at 3pm. Before going to bed I took (1) Advil. (The Tylenol is for the discomfort and the Advil is for the anti-inflammatory) I also used a cold pack and rested it on my adams apple for approx 45 min. The next morning I felt considerably better but still had a bit of that same discomfort when swallowing. I repeated the same regimend as the day before. then it was amazing the next morning I was fine. There still is a very very slight feeling, but it is definitely going away. Hope this helps someone.

I've had the same problem for a couple weeks. Right side of my throat/neck and causes discomfort (not necessarily pain) on the outside of the throat.  Sometimes happens when I swallow, other times i don't feel a thing. Woke up one morning after a night of drinking/rough housing with a few buddies and it was quite alarming. After a few days it went away on its own, but I'm starting to develop a cold and the discomfort came back after a few repetitive sneezes. It comes and goes throughout the day, but there is absolutely no swelling or lumps whatsoever. Quite perplexing!

I am experiencing the same issue. Going on 6 weeks now. Hurts pretty bad to swallow, but what is most alarming is the random cramps or spasms comin from that area directly to the right of my Adams apple. From your posts, it seems to be muscular, and going to an ENT may be a waste of time. Urgent care had NO idea what it could be and gave me a antibiotic that did nothing. I have been doing some hard training for a race coming up, maybe resting afterwards for a few weeks will help. Please keep us all updated!!

I have odynophagia on right side as well, but mine is NOT muscle.  I have LPR, "silent reflux" (diagnoaed by ENT), and I think that's the reason.  I've had mine for several months now.  I am a pharmacist, and no one has told me this, but my professional opinion is that due to reflux being worse when one lies on their right side to sleep...the stomach acid travels up esophagus and sits on the right side of the lining...causing inflammation and pain.  I've increased omeprazole dose and have tried sleeping on left to no avail.  So, I'm looking for answers

Alright, I'm officially weirded out. I've had this pain for the past few days and decided to google it on a whim. My pain is quite disabling seeing how swallowing my own spit is unbearable. I don't do any sports or physical activity. I'm just a guy who sits and plays videogames on his downtime. There's noting I can think of that triggered this pain. It was just suddenly there. A slight discomfort one night and full on pain in the morning. So this can't be an injury of any kind. I've come to the conclusion, based on what I've read here, that this pain is being cause by a thing that targets something in the right of the neck near the Adam's apple. My early thoughts were that it may be serious like cancer or something. Cancer isn't organized like this. This has a pattern and a clear design to it. Knowing that leads me to believe it's some lifeform attacking a gland or something in the neck. I'm going to try the tylonol/advil thing I read about here and if that doesn't work, I am going to a doctor. I'll let everyone here know if and how my pain is relieved. As a quick, yet redundant, description. Similar feeling to a slight ear ache in my right ear cuppled by a pain that stretches from behind and just under the corner of my jaw to just above my Adam's apple all on the right side. For whoever's freaking out, relax. I'm not saying that to belittle your concern, but freaking out will do absolutely noting to help you. If you're that worried, get yourself to a doctor. Seek professional help. If a general doctor, like a pediatrician, seems unsure, then ask to be referred to a specialist.

The pain being experienced is due to the flesh being damaged in some way. Pain killers/pain relievers will help, but the damage is still there. It's like putting a band-aid on a gash. All is well on the outside, but underneath, the damage is still there. You need to flesh to heal though. Otherwise the pain will keep coming back. So, take the meds to relieve the pain. Tylonol, alive, advil, etc. Pain relief is pain relief. On top of that, give your body a healthy cocktail so it can repair itself. Eat lots of protein vitamins nutrients etc etc etc. Your body needs all this stuff to fix itself. Hydrate as well. Super duper important. Just do all that, take a day or two off work, REST, and you should be fine. Healthy diet, pain relievers, lots of rest. Let your body repair itself.

Thank you for your supportive response. I'm hoping to see my doctor again tomorrow regarding this exact same problem (you describe it to a T). I'm still following up with my doc, but I feel calmer and might get some sleep! Grabbing some pain relief and going to chill some. Thanks again.

[ I've spent 10 yrs constantly roving the internet for investigative-related medical information] / This throat pain is after 2 months of trapezius pain : 6 days now, (4yr history of morning aches because I am a "stomach / one-quarter" sleeper & my shoulders have always collapsed towards my ears - difficult for a pillow solution that won't entice reflux from poor digestion), borderline overweight w/ genetic-based heavy sweating - which means bodyheat interrupts my sleep quality, & high chronic anxiety from a childhood of unexamined extreme ADHD. So...I have been tagged for possible lymphatic issues. I am an ex-smoker (7yrs ago) & ex-binge alcoholic (8yrs ago) who is being treated for hyperlipidemia w/ scary triglyceridemia. I'm hoping my choice to rehabilitate my medically-restricted sedentary physique (& 6 years of diet rehab) will be worth the "toxic dump" Inflammation will localize !

(lost info) toxic dump: cytokines? I think) that will occur from years of neglecting lifestyle. (Inflammation) especially for problematic quirks. Even though I have a "hyper-sensitive" body, I also have surprising tolerance to certain discomforts, & so I no longer use OTC pain pills from stores - due to my GI system already having been through enough of them (& consumptions) in the past.

That's amazing I have the same kind of pain in the right side of my neck when I swallow and I've been playing a lot of tennis lately also. I know this original post is very old,but just curious what the results were. Thanks
