This really is UNBELIEVABLE. Everyone here is describing the same thing I am currently experiencing.. I am an avid runner. Have had this weird swallowing (not pain) but discomfort for 2 weeks. Definitley NOT on the inside lining of the throat but feels like it's on the outside of the throat (below the skin). No lumps can be felt. When swallowing the pressure is on the right side. Seems to get more pronounced by end of the day. During a run it feels fine. When you can really feel discomfort and pinpoint location of the pressure is when you act like you are holding in a sneeze. Once again the pressure / discomfort is on the RIGHT side of the adams apple. The front of the adams apple is a bit tender when touched (like a muscle pain) ALSO when you touch the muscle or tendon that runs down the right side of the throat below the adams apple it is tender. WHAT is this???

I'm replying to my post....I'm cured. Here is what I did. after suffering for 2 1/2 weeks with discomfort and fear... I took (2) 500 mg Tylenol at 3pm. Before going to bed I took (1) Advil. (The Tylenol is for the discomfort and the Advil is for the anti-inflammatory) I also used a cold pack and rested it on my adams apple for approx 45 min. The next morning I felt considerably better but still had a bit of that same discomfort when swallowing. I repeated the same regimend as the day before. then it was amazing the next morning I was fine. There still is a very very slight feeling, but it is definitely going away. Hope this helps someone.

I've had the same problem for a couple weeks. Right side of my throat/neck and causes discomfort (not necessarily pain) on the outside of the throat. Sometimes happens when I swallow, other times i don't feel a thing. Woke up one morning after a night of drinking/rough housing with a few buddies and it was quite alarming. After a few days it went away on its own, but I'm starting to develop a cold and the discomfort came back after a few repetitive sneezes. It comes and goes throughout the day, but there is absolutely no swelling or lumps whatsoever. Quite perplexing!

I have odynophagia on right side as well, but mine is NOT muscle. I have LPR, "silent reflux" (diagnoaed by ENT), and I think that's the reason. I've had mine for several months now. I am a pharmacist, and no one has told me this, but my professional opinion is that due to reflux being worse when one lies on their right side to sleep...the stomach acid travels up esophagus and sits on the right side of the lining...causing inflammation and pain. I've increased omeprazole dose and have tried sleeping on left to no avail. So, I'm looking for answers

Thank you for your supportive response. I'm hoping to see my doctor again tomorrow regarding this exact same problem (you describe it to a T). I'm still following up with my doc, but I feel calmer and might get some sleep! Grabbing some pain relief and going to chill some. Thanks again.
