Hi. I had a needle-stick injury at the hospital… I am really worried now. What are HIV and hepatitis risks?

Hi. Well, it depends. If you were exposed to infected body fluids, you are at risk. Maybe the needle was clean, or not used? Anyway, if you share a needle with infected person, you are at great risk. Needle sharing causes 1/3 of all HIV infections. Needle sharing is the cause of 50% of hepatitis C infections. Drug users are advised not to share needles, cotton balls, the spoons, crack pipes, etc. New, properly sterilized needles have to be used for each injection. If you think that needle was used, you should check it out. You can take a blood test and check out for hepatitis right now. However, in case of AIDS you have to wait 6 months to take your blood test.

I was injured at the hospital by a tech who jump the IV needle, causing me a blood clot. What to do now? Should I sue them?
