I had my first cervical injection for pain d/t herniated disks at both C5 and C6 5 days ago. I believe I had a negative reaction to this procedure. My MD said I wouldn't feel anything (as far as pain relief) until at least 3 injections. Within 8 hours of the first one I experienced extreme pain at the neck and shoulder area (10+ the worst pain I've ever experienced) for 24 hours. My husband applied ice packs to me throughout the night. The area felt "hot". I had Vicodin for pain which did about as much good as a Tic Tac. Perhaps I should have gone to the ER and did consider it, and would have, had it increased or not gotten better the next day. I have had fatigue and intermittent diarrhea each day since. I called my MD the following day and the nurse told me that bad reactions are very rare as cortisone is made in the body naturally. I'm definitely NOT up for another try, however, unless he puts me in the hospital on a Morphine Drip. I follow up with him in three more days.
