i was told the same by my gp - within 'normal' limits, but she could appreciate the pain it caused - i actually said to her, unless you have it hanging out like this u have no idea the discomfort it causes and thats how i got referred. be brave re a male ha ha, you never know he may be more sympathetic, but, u need to say to him, it will be hard as a male for you to appreciate the problems this causes, and then tell him exactly how it affects your life.

after my op i had follow up and was absolutly mortified it was a male - im 42, but in all my years of smears, having babies etc ive never had a male look down there !! keep us updated

Hi, it went very well. It was under general and I got out last night. It is quite painful and i feel very tired and faint today but other that that I am very pleased. It is veeeeery swollen at the moment but I am thrilled with how it looks already, all tucked in and girly. I wasn't given too much info on aftercare other than shower and apply an antibacterial iodine spray 2-3 times daily. I got some frozen peas so might give that a try. I wasn't given antibiotics either, is that a common thing?

yep, no pills, u only get them if u get infected - and honey u dont want an infection! do the peas on and off every half hour, take ibuprofen which will help reduce the swelling, do the warm salty water wash every time u wee, do not bath for a week and dont put any soap products down there for about 5 days, i also used a rubber ring to sit on which was a godsend. keep me updated on how u are doing. i know wot u mean re how fab it is to have nothing now hanging out! x

Hi again, so i had my post op check up yesterday and things seem to be doing good. There is still alot of swelling and i am still taking it very easy but wow what a difference, i'm so delighted! Things are quite rubbery and stiff with the swelling and scars, especially on one side so iv'e been told to gently message it to soften it up. Overall at day 9 I am extremely pleased I went through with this. I know this was an NHS thread and i went private but I just thought I'd update, my surgeon spoke about how rare it is to get it done on the NHS these days. Good luck girls, nhs or private make sure you get a good surgeon, I don't think I could have asked for a better one and it makes the process alot easier :) x

So thought I'd do another update. I'm 2 and a half weeks post op and though there is still swelling I am absolutely thrilled with the results. I had originally went through my doctor via the NHS who straight away said she could refer me for surgery as mine were very large. After a 2 month wait to see my gynae she told me that my doctor should have actually of referred me to a plastic surgeon. That was at the start of December and now 2 months on I have just got a letter saying that they wouldn't even see me and that this surgery isn't really being considered through the NHS and there is ongoing discussions. All i can say is how thankful that at the time I had the money to be able to go private because this was such a huge issue for me. Certainly looks like it's being taken off as an option through the NHS. Thought I'd just give my story to see if it helps anyone else.

hi guys...wish i was coming back to you all with good news but say it aint so ey. I had my second consultation on Valentines day with an Indian lady doctor and i feel devastated with her. She was totally condescending and unsympathetic almost making a mockery of me. She told me i shouldn't wax because that is what causes itching (when i itch i get right inside the labia), she told me to try different sexual positions in order to avoid pain, they become more sore AFTER sex. I was told that trimming was an option for me i just can't believe it, i can't let anybody see my vagina, i can't walk 10 metres without re=arranging myself/itching. It's hell, i don't need to tell you all. I'm just wondering if i'm being unreasonable writing to the hospital about wanting to see another consultant? Has anybody went private and paid on finance? looking like the only option now :(

hi razzle. that is disgraceful - the way you were treated. you personally cant request a 2nd nhs opinion, u will have to get that via your GP. i cant recall how long ago u had this done, but u should not be feeling like this, that being said if waxing is causing u to itch so much i would suggest not waxing all over, just do the sides?

I don't wax! She assumed that was what was causing the issue but when the labia move around whilst i walk that is what itches. i've found a clinic in Manchester named Pall Mall medical who can do the op for 1270 which is incredibly cheap?! Thinking about getting a credit card and taking it from there!

be careful - if its too cheap there is a reason! do research and be 100% sure beefore u go ahead x

I had an appointment with my g.p yesterday.

I explained that it had got worse after having my son 4 years ago, that it causes me pain during sex when the lips get pushed up inside and that i constantly have to re-adjust myself throughout the day.

He seemed to think that it shouldn't be a problem and didn't look like it would be causing me pain, because they move quite easily.

He explained that it could be regarded as cosmetic and that the nhs wont pay for cosmetic reasons.

He asked how i feel about how it looks i said that i don't really like it i think because of the discomfort and pain it causes to me .

He has referred me to the gyno and ill get a letter through with a choice of local hospitals to have my appointment at.

will they refer me to a surgeon?

i'm in st albans Hertfordshire

im guessing the gyno is going to be the one who considers me for surgery and makes the final decision?

im amazed he has referred you - im a medical secretary within hertfordshire - i was one of the last ones to have this done 2 years ago, and literally a month later they stopped all funding of labiplasty! you have nothing to lose by going to the appointment, but, im almost 100% sure the PCT will not fund this for you - very very few areas wtihin england now fund - ireland still ok. so unfair and i know exactly what you feel and what you are going thru, keep us updated
