Hi, I have been unhappy with my Labia for the last few years, I dont know if it suddenly grew to be bigger or whether I just became more conscious about it. I am turning 21 this year, and have had the same boyfriend for 3years. Yes I am slightly self-conscious about the matter, but he says it isn't a problem. The main concern I have started having is that it has started interfering with my sex life, sometime when having sex it gets caught and pushed inside which can be slightly uncomfortable (and I worry my boyfriend is started to notice this). I have also found it increasingly hard to stay clean in that area.
I am realy worried about going to the doctor about this as I don't know how to go about explaining it, without getting embarrased. Also I believe the only way to resolve this would be a labia reduction, but I am a student and couldn't afford an operation. Would the NHS pay?
I'm worried it is going to get worse, as it seems to have developly got worse over the last few years , although I cannot work out how. It is realy getting me down now, although I still have sex, I am increasingly conscious about it. If anyone has any advice it wou;d be greatly appreciated.

Dear Georgia: You are totally right about your labia getting larger as you got older. Hormones, and genetics play a HUGE part in determining your labia size. We are all different, you can have small ones, large ones, uneven ones etc. It sounds like it is really having a negative affect on you. I live in Canada, so I know that the surgery is covered here. And I believe it should be covered by the NHS - because it is becoming a health and a physcological problem. In many countries it is the same way of thinking, If I wanted a part of me reduced - say the breasts - just because I want to. Then I will have to pay for it! BUT if I say it hurts my back, gives me grooves in my shoulder and headaches, THEN it is covered. The same should be true about your labia! They are just long breasts but lower XD JK!!!!! Talk to your physician about getting a meeting with a gynecologist and tell them that it is hurting you while having sex! And making you extremely uncomortable. Ask for a consult for a LABIAPLASTY! And go from there. Good luck and good health!
