i would be amazed if you got funding for this - sorry to say, im a medical secretary within hertfordshire, i had op done 2 years ago, and literally a month later all funding ceased for this. lots of areas within england no longer fund this, thanks PCT, but u have nothing to lose by goin to the appointmetn, but, go with the thought in mind they wont actually be able to santion the go ahead of having it done, so unfair, no exactly what you are going thru and how u feel. keep us updated

im hoping as its not for a cosmetic reason they will do it

i dont know why my doctor would waste my time referring me to the hospital unless the occasionally allow it.

i can only think that its his way of not ignoring the issue and letting me get a second opinion from the gyno.

i hope i don't get there and they have no idea why i am there with no explanation my doctor and say i'm in the wrong place and i need a plastic surgeon.

i don't know if gynos can perform this surgery in the local hospitals.

ive seen a girl on youtube on the embarrassing bodies programe she was refered to harley street clinic in london for the same issues i have.

im going to do reasearch into prices so far the cheapest in a sort after clinic is £1700!

sadly, as far as the PCT are concenred there is no medical reason for them to fund this op - yes, ok for them to say this, let them live with the problems it causes! all the information will be in your referral letter. i was referred for exactly the same thing - of course, hated the look of it, but the main thing was the discomfort etc. so whatever u do, do not say you dont like the look - as that is then cosmetic. mine was done by a gynae surgeon in the local hospital - princess alexandra in harlow, but as i said, i know for a fact east and north herts pct and north london pct will not cover this op - not sure which trust you come under?

fingers crossed

hii everyone!

Alot has happened since i last posted.

Exactly six weeks to the day i was ridiculed and patrionised at my local NHS hospital for having such an issue (letter of complaint is in the process of being sent) - i will be travelling down to Manchester to have the surgery performed privately.

I took out a credit card to pay for it but my Mam stepped in to pay for it  & she'll be coming down with me, i can't tell you how elated i am this problem is finally being eradicated.

The surgeon clearly explained both methods and i've gone for the 'wedge' technique, can't wait! This Thursday!

I shall update once the surgery is complete, no doubt i'll be needing your advice/reassurance.

rhi :) xx

Hi everyone! I thought i'd share my labiaplasty experience with the users on this thread who've given me all the advice & support and for people whom may be reading through this & considering the surgery. First off i'd like to fully recommend Pall Mall Medical if you're looking to go private, lovely clinic and wonderful staff.I opted for the WEDGE technique. I wasn't put off by previous posts who've had a bad experience with this technique as all of our vaginas are different as well as our surgeons! The local anaesthetic injections were very unpleasant, i was aware the eneral concencous from people was that the injections were the worst part of the operation and i'd agree. My vagina kinda fought back, Surgeon started cutting & that paticular part of my labia wasn't numb...not very nice! Several more injections of anaesthetic later & i couldn't feel a thing for the rest of the op including stitches. Anaesthetic wore off about 2 hours after op and only then was i discharged from the clinic. Its bearable, i could walk fine and even went to a restaurant but another couple of hours and the pain hit me like a ton of bricks. I couldn't go anywhere near the area so icing wasn't an option. I took codeine every 4 hours and by bedtime i was walking again, pain wore off and i slept fine. I haven't bled, small traces of dried blood on the pad have been off the stitched wound on either side of my labia.Im still taking the codeine just as a precaution although i'm not in pain at all today, mild discomfort if i sit directly on the area so i'm resting up in bed. ive also got 2 antibiotics a day aswell as suppositories...im just about to do a google search on suppositories because they are horrific to take (up the bum) or if i pass wind.Although the area is swollen, i have to say i know exactly how its going to look already and i'm absolutely THRILLED. To me, its perfect and i never thought id be able to say that. Id only recommend this op if you suffer discomfort/pain/self esteem issues like the women posting onthis thread. If its for vanity reasons, id seriously think again.Im more than happy to email anybody a pic if they want to see the wedge technique before and after. Rhi x

Hi guys! So im 6 days post op now and the swelling hasn't gone down much so it's still very uncomfortable to walk around, thankfully got another 2 days off till i have to go back to work.my stitches have started to come out aswell, i asked my surgeon and he said it takes 7 days+ for them to come out but my left labia has shed 3 already. They were on the outside of the labia holding it together as it were. I've felt the area and it feels tough - as though both parts of my labia have started to bind together which is good i'm guessing? Also noticed a white discharge paticularly at the top of my stitches, around the clitoris, i know yeast infections are common but it dosn't smell so i'm assuming this is normal?

hello i also really want labiaplasty. it hangs really low and have been depressed about it for years and havent told anyone before, i actually self harmed because of it age 14-16 and theres been plenty of times where iv almost just got the scissors to cut it off when feeling so down, it so uncomfortable and forever rubbing on my underwear making it itch and i hate it. its always on my mind i never forget about it cant stop thinking about it so today i made an appointment with my doctor. im so nervous and worried ill be rejected or he wont even refer me to a gyno, what should i say to him? what things should i avoid saying? im 18 by the way. also im not going to tell my parents about this so do you think i would be able to get the surgery (if i get accepted) without them realising? thanks x

aww carmelx really really feel for you. unless you live in ireland, it is highly unlikely you will get referred on the nhs for this - the pct will no longer fund it as it is considered cosmetic! im afraid going down the private route is your only option. and there is no way you could have this done without telling them as you need to rest, you will walk odd for a few days. you wont be able to do any of the usual things you do for a few weeks,so i think they mite guess you have had something done! please please dont do anytthing to yourself - im sure you wont, but you could cause irrepairable damage. make sure you tel the doctor exactly wot you have written here re self harming etc and how it is affecting you severely psychologicallly. good luck sweetie keep us updated

Hi carmel i'm 20 and couldn't bare telling anyone ESPECIALLY my parents but i got rejected by the Nhs and felt i had to tell my Mam as i wanted to go private i was so dsperate. She was really understanding and it gave me the confidence to be open with my friends and you'd be surprised how many girls are insecure just like us! Theres alot of different finance routes you can go down if you do go private but believe me you will need help after the surgery so definitely tell someone! Good luck! X

If you go to your GP they will more than likely refer you to a Gynaecologist who you will see at a hospital. They give you FALSE HOPE. Once you have that appointment they will tell you they don't fund it anymore, honestly such a waste of time. If you can't tell your parents then i suggest you wait a while until you're in a secure job with money. It's been 2 weeks since my operation and i'm only starting to feel comfortable now! i wish you the best of luck in whatever happens. PS you really might be surprised by how understanding your Mam will be if you tell her :) x
