Hi. I had some kidney problems and just wonder what should be the normal size of kidneys? I think that my left kidney is a bit larger than the right one. Is there some sort of standard size or does it vary with age or weight? I have 55 kg weight and am 25 yo. Anybody with some info on the kidney size?

Hi. Kidney size vary with age or weight, I guess. Normal kidneys are the size of a closed human fist. So, you could say that kidneys are proportionate to the rest of your body size. Left kidney is larger than the right one, it is well known. Variations in renal dimensions and weight are linked with gender. Renal dimensions vary in different ethnic populations, too. But, you could say that each kidney is about 13 cm long and 8 cm wide. Like a computer mouse.
