To stay healthy, it is important to maintain a proper weight based on height and age.

What is my ideal weight?

BMI (Body Mass Index) is a great way to check if you are at a healthy weight.

The formula for calculating your BMI is:

[Weight in Pounds / (Height in inches)^2] x 703

According to this formula, BMI is divided into categories:

  • <18.5 = Underweight
  • 18.5 - 24.9 = Normal Weight
  • 25 - 29.9 = Overweight
  • BMI of 30 or greater = Obesity

BMI as a measurement does have some limitations because it doesn't calculate muscle mass, waist measurements, or body fat directly.

The weight and height ratio may vary based on the genetics, body structure and type, density of the bones, and other factors.

If you are underweight, you should consider eating more, but if you are overweight you should have a good look at your diet and your everyday habits.

Obese and overweight people have a greater risk of many diseases like coronary heart disease, hypertension, Type II Diabetes, dyslipidemia, stroke, and sleep apnea.

What's my waist size?

Knowing your waist size will help you know how much fat you have around your belly.

For most people a healthy waist is:

  • Less than 40 inches (102 cm) for men.
  • Less than 35 inches (88 cm) for women.
A normal daily intake of calories for a healthy human adult is around 2500 calories.

Proteins, carbohydrates and fat all contain calories. It is possible to eat very unhealthily while not consuming an excess of calories. It is important to maintain a balance between the calories you consume and the calories your body burns daily, but also to eat a varied and healthy diet.

Are you satisfied with your weight?

The most important thing is eating and living healthy.

If you want to lose weight you should reduce your intake of calories by 500-1000 calories per day.

Eat breakfast every day, as it is the most important meal of the day. Breakfast will give your body the energy to get through the day.

Try to eat healthy food like fresh fruits and vegetables, and calcium-rich food, and avoid snacks, junk food, chocolate, candies, and sodas. Drink a lot of fluids, water and tea only.

Exercise a couple of times a week, run, swim or any other sports that you like will do you good. It will help you burn calories, and keep you fit and healthy.

Be patient as losing weight is not easy. It will take time. It is important to change your eating habits and your living in the long run. If you are only temporarily focused on losing weight, or if you achieve your desired weight and get back to the old habits and eating you will gain that weight again very quickly.
