What doses of oxazepam are similar to doses of valium that are used in same purpose? How long does it take for valium to start working? As these two drugs are pretty similar according to their indications, do they have same side effects? I want to switch from oxazepam to valium, after 5 months of using oxazepam. Please post if you have some advices to give me.

Valium is diazepam generically and oxazepam is the active methabolit of diazepam. So, these drugs are very similar, they both belong to class of benzodiazepines. Doses of oxazepam vary from 5-15 mg per day, as you didn’t mention what dose you were taking. Maximum amount that can be prescribed is 80mg per day. Doses of valium are lower, usual doses for adults are 2-2.5mg taken once or twice daily. I was on oxazepam for year and half before decided to switch on valium, but the effect was the same and also the side effects, like tiredness, sleepiness but associated with sleeping disturbances and sometimes nervousness.

I have never taken oxazepam and I plan on taking it for the panic attack i get after the occasionally binge drinking. I was wondering if it will help me sleep? The problem here is when I drink I will get up at 5 am and not be able to sleep and be in pure panic. So I am wondering if I will benefit from taking oxazepam 30mg? I know I should not drink but I like the occasionally night out.

Hi sandra247 ....I loved using Oxazapam it helped me out alot with being sleeping problems I use to be awake for days on end...truly wonderful ....i'm not taking it now but it does work. In my opinion. I hope this has been helpful I also had to take the 30 mg the others were not strong enough to knock me out lol .....i'm a horrible insomniac lol
