Hello. I've been diagnosed with PCOS 10yrs ago. I have hairitsm, weight gain, unbalanced hormones, and multiple ovarian cysts. I was advised to take Metformin to better my chances for pregnacy. I would try to take the meds for about 3 days and stopped because of the side effects. I worked around too many people to be passing wind or being on the toilet on a consistent basis. Throughout the years, I've tried loosing weight, herbal-all natural meds (made me have a period but didn't correct my problem), and somewhat changed my eating habbits. My period would come for 3 months at a time consecutively, and then disappear for another 3 months. I would experience brown spotting from time to time during my off months. Last year, my old GYN told me I was "fully blown" PCOS- meaning the multiple cysts on my ovaries were large.. but he didn't do a blood test. I got married this year and my husband and I are TTC. I changed doctors. I work from home now (for the same company) so I started taking Metformin and prenatal vitamins towards the end of July. In August my current doctor advised me my blood test came back normal including my DHEA levels. I asked to him to do a total count of my testosterone because I still have hair growing on my face and shave like a man every other day. My blood results shows my total count of testosterone was still higher than normal but not as usual. My transvaginal ultrasound came back with me having a mild case of PCOS (only a few but very small cysts).. Finally, my period came down (heavy and clotty) on Sept 15th. I starting spotting brown on Oct 5th (still taking Metformin and prenatal vitamins) but this time I had a streak of blood too. I had an appointment with my Internal Med Dr the next day. I told her about the spotting and she advised me of Implantation Bleeding. She said to wait 2 weeks and take a preg test if my period don't come. I'm more concern with why I'm spotting brown while taking Metformin. 2 weeks didn't come yet... I have 4 more days.. lately, I've been cramping, notice my breast are a little bigger, urinating more, getting sleepy early. My cervical mucus is almost in like lumpy lotion. I'm anxious to know whether or not I'm pregnant or having PCOS complications.

I just started metformin as well about 2 weeks ago and am experiencing spotting, tender breast, and cramps. Did you end up having a bfp? Or AF?

Good Morning. I know I am super late. But I got a BFN! I ended up changing doctors. My new GYN gave me a HSG and come to find out my right tube is completely blocked and my left tube is partially blocked. My husband and I decided to try IVF. My egg retrieval was on 2/21/2013. 14 eggs were retrieved, 5 fertilized...My doctor transferred 2 grade A embryos on 2/26/2013 (5day trans).. I'm currently 2ww for blood preg test (3/8/2013.

Hi,

I know I arrived at the party pretty late, but I was recently diagnosed with PCOS a few months ago, specifically, April 2014. So I've been trying to change my lifestyle for the 4 months.

When I first started taking Metformin, the side effects were pretty horrible. I'm a lecturer and when I have teaching days, being on Metformin was super difficult for me. I had to constantly run to the loo...so I stopped taking it altogether. Needless to say, I also started reverting to old eating habits for about a month. However, I made a conscious decision in June to go all the way this time round, so I opted for the Paleo Diet (with my own twists, such as elimination of nightshades, etc). I also started to take my Metformin dosage again. This time around, I noticed that if I eat RIGHT, I don't have the same side effects that I had the last time, if I ate too much carbs or foods high in sugar content...my body immediately responded by making me sick.

The conclusion of this longwinded post, is this, you really need to change your diet when you go on Metformin. You can't continue to live like you used to...it gets easier though...in the beginning its quite hard...then it gradually becomes habitual.
